Okay I am totally pissed with FOX Sports....Do you know they refused
to show the singer singing the Canadian National Anthem before tonight's All Star Game in Pittsburgh?

They stayed away at commercial and came back just in time for the U.S. Anthem.

Did they actually censor this out or am I missing something?

I think the do this all the time during sports events now.

I realize FOX is the U.S. rah-rah station and hates every other country.

But the fact of the matter is there are Canadians who play on U.S. teams, and there is one MLB team located in Canada (Toronto).

FOX is so despicable. But then you know that already.

1. The Canadian anthem aired on Rogers Sportsnet here in Canada....
They are carrying Fox's coverage. I don't know though, maybe certain Fox affiliates in the U.S. stayed on commercial break. Wouldn't surprise me one bit!

20. No, I'm almost positive it was censored here nationally. They came back
from the break and you could hear applause, which was the end of the Canadian Anthem.

And then the FOX broadcasters said, "Let's go to PNC Park Public Address Announcer..." and showed the U.S. Anthem.

So, they had no intention of showing the Canadian Anthem.

I'm not sure if Rogers Sportnet was using its own announcers.

If so, they were just using the FOX feed, which probably had a camera going for the Canadian Anthem as a service to its Canadian broadcast partners.

32. We are getting the full Fox coverage, with Joe Buck and McCarver...
...but I have no doubt Fox execs - perhaps at the behest of Falafel Bill - ensured that the Canadian anthem not be aired in the U.S. I did notice there was somewhat of a delay between anthems. As in, to wait for the commercials to end on Fox in the U.S.

Pathetic stuff no doubt, and totally not surprising at all.

3. It's not just Fox...
no other network would have sacrificed valuable commercial time for "O, Canada." Too bad, cuz it's way cooler than the "Star Spangled Banana." I just wanted to see the introductions, then I changed the channel.

NHL Stanley Cup playoffs this year.

5. Remember, these are the people who canned Keith Olbermann
after they hoped and prayed he'd just quit in a huff and then they wouldn't have to pay out the rest of his contract. He was too smart to fall for that. He made them fire him so they'd have to pay out the rest of his contract!

6. Oh, it's not really censorship.
Just a cynical commercial decision that no American could possibly be interested in hearing any other country's national anthem. How many Olympic medal ceremonies do they show if there ain't no red-blooded American with a gold or silver?

8. Well...
did you see the World Cup? The national anthems of both competing nation were played before each match. There's a Canadian team in the American Legue (the Blue Jays); so it only seems fair that they give equal coverage to the Canadian anthem.

this is an American baseball league. I don't follow baseball a whole lot...but are these players Canadian or are they simply playing for a team in Canada?

which seems pretty obvious (and it's NOT 'an American baseball league', if it has a Canadian team, now is it? No wonder the rest of the world thinks Americans are ignorant)

15. I am quite aware that there is ONE canadian
baseball team in the Major Leagues. And yes it's an American Baseball Leauge with one Canadian team that may or may not have any Canadian players on it. I really don't understand the controversy behind not broadcasting the Canadian National Anthem on an AMERICAN television station. Whose being ignorant here?

36. Oh...I'm sorry let me start from the beginning...
Oh wow, what an amazing observation on your part. I'm sure that the fact that another nation's anthem was not broad-casted on an American T.V. channel has everything to do with the fact that Fox hates Canada.:sarcasm:

There's honest criticism and then there is just paranoia, this thread is the latter.

37. Well, you still sound like Ann Coulter. But just in case you're not, let
me explain something to you.

They also fly the Canadian flag at United States' stadiums when Toronto is the opponent.

They did the same for Montreal before the team moved to Washington last year.

I realize you're hysterical with American patrotism, and that's fine.

But it is customary for both anthems to be broadcast (broad-casted is not a word).

It was that way for decades and decades.

And before you scream times have changed....

NBC showed both anthems during the NHL Stanley Cup in June.

FOX is FOX. Whether it's showing the news or a baseball game.

I enjoy watching these auto races on SPEED network, but several are shown on

CBS tape delayed same day coverage instead of live as on SPEED.

Anyway, at the end of the race, on the podium, the National Anthem and flag of the winning

driver is played and shown, in this case it was Spain.

Then the National Anthem of the car's constructor's country is played, which in this case

was France, but CBS decided not to torture us with the anthem of those "cheese eating

surrender monkeys", so they cut it.

All I have to say to CBS is mangez la merde et mourez!

Cutting away from the French anthem can construed as a sign of respect. (e.g. "We won't taint your nation's anthem with our suck ass broadcast.")
