Thanks to DU, CA-50 legal fund's initial goal reached! Thank you!
The election integrity leaders challenging the illegally conducted election in San Diego County--including the special election for the 50th Congressional District--give a mighty thank you to all DUers who contributed to our initial fundraising efforts. A large donation today put us over the $10,000 goal we needed too retain our lawyer.

Our attorney has now been retained, and we're mapping our strategy. Hand count and lawsuit are both under consideration.

Thanks also to Velvet Revolution for collecting donations on behalf of the ad hoc group of activists (we'll have a name soon, I promise!). VR is not taking a cut of these donations at all.

No funds have been spent yet, though the $10K is, as indicated in the initial fundraising thread, being used as a "retainer" for the attorney. Whether we pursue a hand count or litigation, more funds will certainly be needed. I hope DU mods will give us a chance to let you know when they're needed.

Meanwhile, keep tabs of our progress here and on Bradblog.com.

We will make an accounting of how the funds are spent.

Thanks again to all!

1. Good luck, emlev
and ask the lawyers, to give you all a slack, their individual rights as citizens are at stake, too.

Personally, I think legal costs should be charged to those who infringe upon our rights.

3. Way to go DU!
Everyone wants to know what they can do to fight the vote stealing machines.

Well, that's what this is all about. This is the first concerted effort against those machines that I know about. These people on the ground in San Diego deserve our support, whether they win or lose.

12. BeFree, how about this?
You wrote,
"Everyone wants to know what they can do to fight the vote stealing machines."

How about you gather together a group of people who want to take action and don't know how, and I'll help them get started figuring out how.

PM me if you're interested in taking on coordinating this.

11. Way to go, emlev and all who sent $ and good wishes too!
Long shots DO win.

Heart and truth DO win, too -- I don't even think that's a long shot, just sometimes a long effort.

17. Maybe the lawyer would
throw in a little pro bono now in exchange for becoming the most famous lawyer in the United States if successful.

I think that might just bring him a little more business.
