More Examples of Coulter Godless 'plagiarism'
More examples of 'possible plagiarism' from Coulter's 'Godless' book:

In addition to the three examples identified by plagiarism expert John Barrie (commissioned by The New York Post), three other examples cited by The Rude Pundit, and a list of fifteen items already reported by RAW STORY, the continuing investigation has turned up four more examples.

(Note: While similar language is used in the entirety of each of the quotations provided, language which is identical or nearly-identical is emphasized in bold by RAW STORY.)

The New York Sun

In the sixth chapter (page 163), Coulter employs language similar to that in a February, 2005 article published in the New York Sun, written by David Salisbury, the Director of the Center for Educational Freedom at the Cato Institute, as well as numbers used in the Sun, without citing any source at all.

Coulter: "Between 1982 and 2001, spending on New York City public schools increased by more than 300 percent, clocking in at $11474 per pupil annually."

Salisbury: "In New York City, funding for public education has more than tripled since 1982, rising to $14.8 billion from $3.8 billion. In terms of per-pupil spending, that's an increase to $11,474 (for 2000-2001) from $4,165."

Coulter: "Only Washington, D.C., that hotbed of educational achievement, spends more per student."

Salisbury: "Only Washington, D.C., spends more, but doesn't get better results."

Coulter: "By contrast, the average tuition for private elementary schools is less than $4,000 and around $6,000 for private secondary schools."

Salisbury: "Data from the National Center for Education Statistics indicate that the average private elementary school tuition in America is less than $4,000 and the average private secondary school tuition is around $6,000."

.....

In a statement released to Media Matters and other websites and media outlets last week, a senior vice president for the Crown Publishing Group, the company that published Coulter's Godless characterized previous plagiarism allegations as "trivial," "meritless" and "irresponsible."

....

Coulter's publisher only mentions "three snippets." The Rude Pundit and RAW STORY have reported at least eight other "snippets."

FULL ARTICLE HERE with 3 more examples of Coulter using similiar language, ideas and information from uncited sources...in other words...plagiarizing....more to come, too

................

Last year sportswriter Ken Powers was fired from his paper for just six examples of similiar lifting:

Link:

In his Jan. 30 piece, Powers wrote: "Each team was 0-1, and each had fallen to 0-1 in rather humiliating fashion. The Patriots had been shut out in Buffalo, 31-0, just four days after releasing very popular defensive captain Lawyer Milloy because he refused to take a substantial pay cut."

King had written, "Each team was 0-1, and each had fallen to 0-1 in rather humiliating fashion. The Patriots got shut out in Buffalo 31-0, just four days after whacking very popular defensive captain Lawyer Milloy because he wouldn't take a major pay cut."

1. I thought she might like CATO
Uses the same "market" nonsense with more vulgar language.

4. I can't stand Coulter
But that's a pretty flimsy hook to hang a plagiarism charge on. Better that she just be declared unworthy of attention.

5. What's a flimsy hook?
11 so-far reported examples of Coulter lifting language, ideas and information from 11 different sources without crediting any of them...and the majority of the time she took at least three lines?

Or did you just read the one above?

6. Absolutely.
If one is a writer by trade and spends time researching, verifying, carefully phrasing, editing and re-editing, polishing, condensing, and putting substantial effort into a piece, his/her work needs to be protected. It is akin to having someone steal the plans for new model car and use them to manufacture a competitive model.

7. I'm basing it on the above.
That's all very innocuous. If there's more, with longer statements, then that's a better case, and she should be hung out to dry.

8. It does seem a little weak

I agree with codeine, I can't stand coulter, and would love to see her busted, but this seems very thin, you could find instances like these in almost any book or article. This will only draw more attention to her book, and give her free publicity, and she has gotten way more than she deserves already.

9. You agree with Codeine
In that you both want to make rash judgements based on one example above instead of taking the time to follow a few links to see all the evidence.

"This will only draw more attention to her book, and give her free publicity, and she has gotten way more than she deserves already."

where have you been the last two weeks?

The Associated Press, Newsweek, MSNBC, Editor & Publisher and others have all reported on the plagiarism after the New York Post hired plagiarism expert John Barrie after seeing the work Rude Pundit and I had done.

But yeah....you're right....drawing attention to Coulter's plagiarism will only help her because that's just great publicity.

10. free publicity
We have a newborn, so I've heard very little tv lately, although I have seen her on several shows. I'm going by what I read here. I didn't have time to read all of the links, but what I did read seemed thin. I would love nothing more than to see her get busted hard on this. I do know how the "no spin zone" works, if someone from the far right is criticized by someone on the left ie. books, statements, articles etc., they often get instant credibility with the right wingers, or they will have to read the book or article, to see what all the fuss is about, I work with these types, and have argued until I'm blue in the face with them. They believe anything that comes from the right, and immediately dismiss any counter point. They often seem to feel that if the left disagrees so much, it must be right. I applaud your efforts, and hope it gets the job done, and I will read more on it, as quite time becomes available.

11. Congratulations on your newborn and welcome to DU.
:hi: The above examples just augment the larger argument that Coulter is a plagiarist. The greater, more glaring examples are supplied with the links above. When you have a moment, follow the links and you will definitely see that there is not doubt that whole sentences are copied.

12. Thank you!
Thank you! It has been great, but it is either baby, work, or bed. There is little time for tv. I have enjoyed DU, great reading, and quite. I will read the rest soon, the house is calm for the moment.

14. I'm no fan either but the worst you can say is she consistently fails to
cite sources.

It is plagerism IMO if you cites facts from third parties
in an interview with language like, "In my book I point out...
(followed by uncredited research)."

Of course her failure to cite sources is intentional because
she doesn't want critical readers to discover that her facts
are being taken out of context in order to push her simplic
polemic.

BTW the only church this Goddess has ever been in is her
bathroom where she worships herself in front of the mirror.

13. These examples don't seem plagiaristic to me
On the other hand, this one is:

http://rudepundit.blogspot.com/2006/06/because-some-things-are-more-profane.html

Here's Coulter from Chapter 1 of Godless: The massive Dickey-Lincoln Dam, a $227 million hydroelectric project proposed on upper St. John River in Maine, was halted by the discovery of the Furbish lousewort, a plant previously believed to be extinct.

Here's the Portland Press Herald, from the year 2000, in its list of the "Maine Stories of the Century": The massive Dickey-Lincoln Dam, a $227 million hydroelectric project proposed on upper St. John River, is halted by the discovery of the Furbish lousewort, a plant believed to be extinct.
