Thank you Senator Lieberman for supporting ALL of our rights
by joining the Dirty 14 or whatever they were who made fililbuster impossible and gave us Alito, Roberts, and who knows who else over the next 2 1/2 years. Because they are the ones who will actually do the dirty work of knocking the legs out from under Women's Rights among others.

When I see your ugly face, in a photo or on the net

I will always think of the SCAB

The Scab
by Jack London, (1876-1916)

After God had finished the rattlesnake, the toad, and the vampire, he had some awful substance left with which he made a scab.

A scab is a two-legged animal with a corkscrew soul, a water brain, a combination backbone of jelly and glue.

Where others have hearts, he carries a tumor of rotten principles.

When a scab comes down the street, men turn their backs and angels weep in heaven, and the devil shuts the gates of hell to keep him out.

No man (or woman) has a right to scab so long as there is a pool of water to drown his carcass in, or a rope long enough to hang his body with.

Judas was a gentleman compared with a scab. For betraying his master, he had character enough to hang himself. A scab has not.

Esau sold his birthright for a mess of pottage.

Judas sold his Savior for thirty pieces of silver.

Benedict Arnold sold his country for a promise of a commision in the british army.

The scab sells his birthright, country, his wife, his children and his fellowmen for an unfulfilled promise from his employer.

Esau was a traitor to himself; Judas was a traitor to his God; Benedict Arnold was a traitor to his country.

A scab is a traitor to his God, his country, his family and his class.

Author --- Jack London (1876-1916)

3. Except the Rights of the people of Connecticutt
to choose the person they want to represent them in the Senate.

If you want Dems to take control of the Senate in November and at least apply a small amount of brakes to this mis-administrations drive into Hell, then you better hope Joe loses the primary and Lamont wins the Senate seat.

Mark my words. If Joe wins, and it's 51-49 in favor of the Dems, he'll switch.

7. Thanks for putting into words..
... what I knew instinctively but couldn't express.

All of the folks here who just can't shut the fuck up about how wonderful Lieberman is with respect to civil rights need to stow it. His machinations helped install 2 wingnuts on the SCOTUS, and trust me they don't give a fuck about your precious rights.

If Lieberman actually cared about our rights, he would not have done that.

(And please, don't start with the mythos of how the gang of 14 were really operating in our interest, nobody bought it then and only an absolute moron would buy it after seeing the results).

8. Point of information

The "dirty 14", as you term the, didn't give you Alito; they just meant that the Republicans didn't have to use the nuclear option.

There was never any possibility whatsoever of preventing Alito's confirmation; the only impact of supporting or opposing the filibuster was the look of the thing to the public.

You can argue that, by making the nuclear option unecessary, Lieberman made it easier for the GOP not to look bad, and hence cost the Democrats votes, but that's a far less serious crime than passing up a genuine chance to prevent Alito's confirmation would have been had such a thing existed.

9. However
Joes vote for cloture on Alito DID get Alito on the bench.

His involvement in the gang of 14 gave us Janice Rogers Brown, another anti-civil rights judge, along with two other judge monstrosities.

20. Apparently, you weren't paying attention
Because of Lieberman (and the rest of the cowardly members of that group) we ended up with 3 of the most extreme judges ever to sit on the federal bench- Owens, Brown and Prior.

That set the stage for Alito- and other nominees who will be granted a pass becuase certain Dems have neither the courage not the political fortitude to stand up to the far right.

The sooner those types are out of office- the sooner the Dems will regain some relevancy in national politcs and policy making.

Until then- I expect them to keep losing on the national level.

People will vote for corruption over cowardice and day- as we will see yet again come this November.

In fact, Lieberman voted against their nomination.

There was no way to prevent their ultimate nomination and your post is factually in error.

18. I think running as an independent would be good for Connecticut
After all, Lieberman has a long history both in state and federal government representing the people of Connecticut. And, I think it would be good for all the people of Connecticut to have a choice on the fate of their incumbent senator, not just primary voters.

Now, I don't agree with Lieberman on everything, but nevertheless is is the incumbent senator for his consitituents...which include all the people of Connecticut, not just Democrats. So, I think the people of Connecticut do deserve that choice.

19. Okay. You went too far with that one.
As I said this morning, basically you are arguing in favor of the current status quo as represented by Lieberman.

For the majority of the country, the current status quo of massive corporate giveaways, freebies to the wealthy in the form of tax cuts, a level of debt that was unheard of before Bush, total obliteration and annihilation of our basic rights is completely unacceptable.

There is a term for what Lieberman has done for Bush. Its called enabling. Lieberman has enabled Bush by giving him some basis to claim that what he has been doing is bipartisan and enabled him to get people on the Supreme Court who might not have gotten there otherwise. As I said, his choice of Alito and Roberts was a dagger aimed to most of us, women's rights, gun control, separation of church and state, you name it they're going to oppose it.

Lieberman took away the ability of the democratic party to say "We did all we could to stop their nomination and ascension to the bench. When we filibustered, we exercised every single option that we had." For that he needs to leave D.C. His move to become independent is an extra slap in the face to ALL democratic voters.

17. the problem with voting against Alito like many democrats did
is that they didn't back it up with supporting a filibuster. He could have been filibustered.

So I certainly don't see not filibustering equating with support of Alito. Many here seem to equate the two, which makes no sense to me.

I find the witch-hunt mentality regarding Senator Lieberman disturbing, eventhough I'm not a CT voter and do not agree with him on everything. He has a long and distinguished record of supporting liberal Demcratic causes, but has been singled out unfairly in my opinion and his record is being distorted.

If someone wants a senators position on Iraq the sole factor deciding their vote fine. Personally, I think that's a mistake.

Democrats should spend less time attacking fellow Democrats and more time focusing how to retake the Senate and House. Whether Lamont or Lieberman is Senator won't make a bit of difference in that.

if Lamont or Lieberman split the Dem vote, the Rupub will win and Lieberman knows it. He's putting "self" first, that's a repub trait. That's why people are turning on Joe!
