The Four Most Overpaid White House Staffers

Today the National Journal published a list of salaries for the 403 White House staffers. Here are the four most overpaid:

Deborah Nirmala Misir   Ethics Advisor    $114,688
Erica M. Dornburg Ethics  Advisor      $100,547
Stuart Baker     Director for Lessons Learned $106,641
Melissa M. Carson    Director of Fact Checking  $46,500

And yes, there is a White House Director for Lessons Learned. We aren’t making this up.

2. Director of Fact Checking is overpaid? Trust me, I get your point about
facts and the Bush administration -- they're at cross-purposes.

But even so, fact checking in most worlds would be a pretty big responsibility, and I made more in DC as a mere secretary.

6. "Lessons Learned" was just the mis-, mal- & non-'s Browniea Culpa
for Katrina. Righ'cheer: http://www.whitehouse.gov/reports/katrina-lessons-learned/ In the Would Be Comical Were It Not So Tragic Dept.: Appendix B - What Went Right. Actually rather lengthy, so I guess the bullshit merchant earned his $100K.

Interestingly, on the staff page http://www.whitehouse.gov/reports/katrina-lessons-learned/appendix-d.html Baker is just listed as a member of the Review Group. He's first, but it's in alphabetical order and Baker comes first in that particular alphabetical list. The Post in a preview http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/02/13/AR2006021300679.html said Frances Fragos Townsend led the review, but I guess we know higherups don't often themselves write the reports they are put in charge of producing.

10. "Director Of Fact Finding" is a GS-5?
At 40 grand per year that looks about like a GS 5 to me.

To put that in perspective consider this, nation-wide the average Government employee is about a GS 11 or so. A GS-5 would typically be a very low position.
