Matalin calls Joe Wilson a bona fide liar, defends BushCo's actions

<snip>

Discussing a just-posted column by Robert D. Novak, who purported to reveal his role in the Plame leak investigation, Hannity & Colmes co-host Alan Comes interviewed Matalin, asking: "Is there any doubt now" that the alleged leak of Plame's name was an "attempt to retaliate against Joe Wilson for speaking out ... against the Bush administration?" Matalin responded: "No. Alan. ... What the prosecutor himself said was that no crime was committed, OK? There's been no crime committed here." She added that "he only person through several investigations documented to have been a bona fide liar in this case is Joe Wilson." Later, Matalin defended the Bush administration's decision to counter Wilson's op-ed, saying that "it would be immoral if the administration did not answer its critics when its critics were lying, flat-out lying about facts relative to the war on terror, which Joe Wilson was knowingly doing."

But contrary to Matalin's assertion on Hannity & Colmes that Fitzgerald said that no crime had been committed in the alleged leak of Plame's CIA identity, in an October 28, 2005, press release summarizing Libby's indictment, Fitzgerald indicated that he had not been able to reach a conclusion about whether a crime had been committed, saying that Libby impeded the grand jury in getting to the bottom of the leak:

Without the truth, our criminal justice system cannot serve our nation or its citizens. The requirement to tell the truth applies equally to all citizens, including persons who hold high positions in government. In an investigation concerning the compromise of a CIA officer's identity, it is especially important that grand jurors learn what really happened. The indictment returned today alleges that the efforts of the grand jury to investigate such a leak were obstructed when Mr. Libby lied about how and when he learned and subsequently disclosed classified information about Valerie Wilson .

2. What exactly did Joe Wilson lie about?
The fact that she can just say something like that without being challenged distresses me.

14. Wilson should file slander charges. It was Bush shill Pat Roberts who
ADDED antiWilson talking points to his Intel Report, but only 3 senators signed that addendum. Roberts couldn't even get the rest of the GOPs on the Intel committee to sign that part of it where he attacked Wilson.

Fitzgerald's evidence proved Wilson was accurate.

8. Isn't it funny how there's this taboo about using the word "liar" to
describe Bush, or Cheney, or Rumsefeld, or any of the other GOP liars, while Republicans seem to toss the label around freely and without criticism- even when it doesn't apply?

10. yes, and why was lani davis calling for a stop to calling bush a liar?
he thinks bush made an honest mistake. i wonder if poppy's bush's friendship with bill clinton has put clinton under a bush spell which may have put davis under a spell.

(i am referring to the lani davis/katrina vandenheuvel appeareance on washington journal this past sunday).
