bush doesn't seem like a guy who would step down like Nixon
Edited on Tue Jan-17-06 08:54 AM by mopaul
Just daydreaming, but if bush came to shove, he might just choose stepping down like uncle Dick Nixon before him. I'm sure Nixon didn't want to, but he did. He said he did it for the good of the nation, which was probably a lie on his part, or an attempt to look honorable.

bush seems more like the 'dragged out kicking and screaming' type, and although he'd like to step down, his monstrous ego won't buy it. But like with Nixon, it was the republicans themselves who told him that it was all over, face impeachment, or make a speech and go away, un-prosecuted.

In a way, Nixon did do the honorable thing, though I doubt by choice. Now if we can just get history to repeat itself, which it has, millions of times.

16. he'll allow an election AFTER they throw out the term limits
amendments.

These guys are setting up for an eternal dictatorship.

I knew that they wouldn't give up the white house in 2004 -- that they would do whatever it took. So Kerry won and he was/is too damned scared to do anything and say anything (on the record).

I am highly doubtful that a democratic candidate will ever win the white house again -- UNLESS we have fair elections and paper ballots and honest vote counting.

Most people don't realize that what ever form of democracy America had -- to think that we have a democracy in the States is delusional -- thus my DU name. I'd like to think we are still a democracy -- but in reality I don't think we ever got very close to being a real democracy.

18. And people will support Bush for another term if they could
I was in central Wisc. over the weekend and a LTTE caught my eye in the local paper. It basically said that, like FDR, we should give Bush a third term to continue the fight in the "War on Terror". If they find a way to pull it off, they will. And don't doubt for a second that they're giving serious thought to it.

5. Its funny you say this
I was thinking the other day how is going to leave in 2008. Is he going to leave? He might get us into a another war and declare he can't leave office. I know he will never step down but, I will be the first to stand at the White House steps if he does get impeached to drag his ass out!!!

12. Not so funny
Well, if the White House lawyers can justify the use of torture, domestic spying without a warrent, I'm sure they can come up with a way for Bush to stay in office past 2008.

And we already know that the Republicans will march in lockstep with the decision, even those who
pretend to be "moderates", and that some of the Democrats will "keep their powder dry" for something more important.

6. Even if he makes it another 3 years, I am afraid they will have to
remove him with force.
That is assuming the don't change the law to allow him to steal another election.

7. I wish he would step down, but
he knows he is a colossal failure in Iraq which is why he has said that what he has done will not be appreciated for about 30 to 50 years. This punk is just setting the stage so he can ALWAYS say that he did not lose in Iraq, which he did...Bigtime.

9. I'm not so sure he will step down in 2009. He could declare the election
is off because of some homeland security reason such as a dirty bomb attack on San Francisco. These PNACers have worked so hard to get in control of the government I can't see them ending their rein with the 2008 elections. I think they rigged the 2000, 2002 and 2004 elections and that was the easy thing to do but the 2008 election could knock them out of power and I don't see them willing to give up easily. They say we will be fighting indefinitely. Well if and anti war Dem is elected how can that be?

11. they did work very hard to get where they are, so they might MAKE him
but they probably won't. and i agree, these particular leeches are not going away to whimper in the corner, even if a dem won. they might even plot to assassinate him politically, like they did clinton, or they might plot even worse scenarios.

19. Living here in Ultra-Violet Blue San Francisco...
...I worry we'd be a "terrorist" target that Bushco would approve of.

{Cue O'Reilly and his invitation for the terra'ists to bomb Coit Tower.}

Added to that, Gore and Tipper are moving here to SF to be close to the new grassroots news network, Current TV that Gore chairs.

And, then...on the other side of the bay in Oakland Harbor there are all of those thousands of ocean going containers stacked one upon the other. The Oakland of high minority population concentration, and Mayor Jerry Brown.

Sometimes I think about this....

13. Bush will never willingly leave the White House.
Edited on Tue Jan-17-06 08:44 AM by ReadTomPaine
Not for an election, not for impeachment. Unless it's for his brother or someone similarly close, he won't do it. It will take some legally sanctioned body to eject him when the time comes. I've been saying this for years here. Mark my words, he won't leave.

I'm sure the neo-cons have all sorts of contingency plans in place, we won't get rid of this bunch easily, even if the Supreme Ruler gets ousted or steps down.

17. He might leave willingly at the end of full 2nd term.
If they can't manage to overturn term limits I think he'd leave willingly, should he still be in office at that point.

However, for many reasons, I think he'll be impeached before then. And because of how that goes down I think he'll have a mental breakdown and, most likely, his screaming refusal to leave will happen behind closed doors, and his resignation will be done via proxy, or briefly under heavy sedation.
