Col. Wilkerson: Cheney and Rumsfeld, Guilty of War Crimes? - Rolling Stone
<snip>

Colin Powell’s former chief of staff has written a provocative piece, Dogging The Torture Story, in which he links the homicides of 25 detainees to the Vice President and the SECDEF:

Documents and memos that have already made their way into the public domain make it clear that the Office of the Vice President bears responsibility for creating an environment conducive to the acts of torture and murder committed by U.S. forces in the war on terror.

There is, in my view, insufficient evidence to walk into an American courtroom and win a legal case (though an international courtroom for war crimes might feel differently). But there is enough evidence for a soldier of long service — someone like me with 31 years in the Army — to know that what started with John Yoo, David Addington, Alberto Gonzales, William Haynes at the Pentagon, and several others, all under the watchful and willing eye of the Vice President, went down through the Secretary of Defense to the commanders in the field….

10. read also Steve Clemons: The Washington Note

Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, who served General Colin Powell in various capacities as a close aide for 16 years -- most recently as Powell's Chief of Staff at the Department of States, has written a short, matter of fact assessment of the torture proclivities during the Bush administration and the Vice President's central role in promoting a "pro-torture" national security/military environment.

11. Very cool
I don't see Cheney lasting too much longer inside the beltway - at least not in a public servant role anymore.

but I've never seen him or any of his neocon ilk as public servants.

13. I have a dream that GOOD people like him who loathe torture and
Edited on Thu Jul-13-06 08:44 AM by Amonester
all war criminals would get together and successfully *overthow* the war criminals and torture advocates that have highjacked the US government since November 2000 and installed a despicable Military Junta (re.: The Project for a New American Century, or PNAC), using proprietary secret software to steal elections and using lies to loot the Treasury.

I also have a nightmare that if the good Col. Wilkerson (who's against torture and all war criminals) cannot act to restore honesty in the WH & Pentagon, all hopes to restore the good name of the US so many fought and died for in the past to defeat torturers and war criminals like the Nazis will be lost forever.

Edit: (Hopefully) clearer posting.

Our own Supreme Court has made clear the Geneva Conventions apply to the current situation, and that they were not and are not being adhered to.
