Lieberman Tells Democrats to STFU About President Bush
It is time for Democrats who distrust President Bush to acknowledge that he will be Commander-in-Chief for three more critical years, and that in matters of war, we undermine Presidential credibility at our nation’s peril.

http://www.crooksandliars.com/posts/2006/07/12/lieberman-tells-democrats-to-stfu-about-president-bush/

Joe really needs to get himself taken off of the "Rove talking points" mailing list. His ass-kissing is getting old.

I'm beginning to think that he needs to make his change from (D) to (R) official instead of just assumed.

by criticizing the "president" during a time of war.

First question, Joe: what war? When did Congress declare war?

(Ok, that's two questions. :) )

Lieberman's coffin, If I lived in CT, I would follow that bastard across that small state and personally tell him STFU!!

There are many in CT who don't have the balls or the access to do that.

Lieberman, that is why Gore lost 2000

35. If you could find him in CT! I certainly don't know where he lives now
since he sold his home in New Haven.

I know he and Hadassah have an apt. in D.C. and she is working there. I am guessing that he has an "address" in CT just to be legally able to represent the state in the Senate. Next time I go to Lamont headquarters I am going to check.

11. Somebody tell that a** h*** that bushie isn't MY commander in chief
and he NEVER will be -- since I'm not in the military.

This is sort of, kind of, something like a democracy -- and we KNOW that bush was never ever elected to the office he makes claims to.

So Lieberman -- dumb idiot -- shut up.

He is a jerk --

I like Gore but I never ever liked Lieberman -- the guy is a creep -- he makes my skin crawl.

Yeck -- slime.

I'm sure he wasn't the only one. To them, the "don't criticize the president" meme only applies when the president is a Republican. Otherwise, he's fair game. It certainly didn't stop Republicans from criticizing Clinton.

24. Normally I would agree. But GWB is impossible to stand behind on anything.
I could imagine there being a Republican president that I might be unhappy with because I would prefer a Democrat leading the country. If he or she was at least competent, had an ounce of integrity, wasn't a complete buffoon for all the world to see, I would want to stand behind my president if we had to fight some awful war somewhere. With GWB all you can do is cringe and hope that the world doesn't fall totally apart before the guy is out of office. From the looks of things, I'm not sure we're going to make it. Time goes by so slowly when change is needed so badly.

33. I think I'll send him a postcard with the Teddy Roosevelt quote -
as a reminder that the President is nobody special in our Democracy. Notice the date - at the end of WWI, so he was speaking of a "war president":

"The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else."

"Roosevelt in the Kansas City Star", 149

54. Bush obviously believes otherwise
To be more accurate, Cheney believes otherwise. Cheney believes that the power of the presidency should be absolute and unquestioned.

My favorite part of that quote: "But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else."

Cheney's version: "We must lie constantly about the president to protect our nation's interests. Interests meaning my wallet."
