Tucker Carlson falsely suggested Puerto Ricans...are immigrants to U.S.
Wed, Jul 12, 2006 3:43pm EST

Tucker Carlson falsely suggested Puerto Ricans living in Texas are immigrants to U.S.

Summary: On MSNBC's Tucker, host Tucker Carlson said to guest Jesse Diaz, president of the League of United Latin American Citizens, "you may be counting Hispanic immigrants from Puerto Rico," after Diaz said that "only 55 percent of illegals are of Mexican descent." However, all native Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens.

On the July 10 edition of MSNBC's Tucker, host Tucker Carlson said to guest Jesse Diaz, Dallas chapter president of the League of United Latin American Citizens, "you may be counting Hispanic immigrants from Puerto Rico," after Diaz said that "only 55 percent of illegals are of Mexican descent," even though all native Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens. During a discussion about illegal immigrant women giving birth at a Dallas hospital, Diaz challenged Carlson's assertion that the United States should "bill Mexico" for services used by illegal immigrants, by pointing out that illegal immigrants come from countries other than Mexico. In response, Carlson recited census http://dallas.areaconnect.com/statistics.htm">data indicating that less than 2 percent of Hispanics living in Dallas are of Puerto Rican or Cuban descent. However, that statistic is irrelevant to the discussion of illegal immigrants -- or "immigrants" at all in the context of Puerto Rico: The http://www.loc.gov/rr/hispanic/1898/jonesact.html">Jones-Shafroth Act of 1917 granted U.S. citizenship to all residents of Puerto Rico. In addition, almost all Cubans who reach U.S. shores are automatically http://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/RL32621.pdf#page=24">granted asylum, so few, if any, would be here illegally.

19. I think that is it
He was ranting about the Iraqis last night because they don't appreciate being "liberated" by us and the idiot said "they (the Iraqis) even rape people who don't deserve it."

I checked the MSNBC transcripts today and they cleaned it up.

20. My Puerto Rican cousins fought in Vietnam.
One is in Iraq now.

My grandfather and his brothers all served in World War II. They were Puerto Ricans.

They all were and are citizens of the United States.

They were and are veterans and heroes of our nation.

Unlike the coward Tucker.

26. Heyo, Gabi Hayes!
Sam With The Showing Scalp Flat Top

Sam with the showing scalp flat top,
particular about the point it made.
Why, when I was knee-high to a grasshopper,
this black juice came out on a hard shelled chin.
And that called that 'tobacco juice'.
I used to fiddle with my back feet music for a black onyx.
My entire room absorbed every echo..
The music was.. thud like. The music was.. thud like.
I usually played such things as rough-neck and thug.
Opaque melodies that would bug most people.
Music from the other side of the fence.
A black swan figurine lay on all color lily pads.
On a little conglomeration table of pressed black felt.
With same color shadows, and seamed(?) knobbed knees, and what-nots.
The long hallway rolled out into oddball odd.
Beside the fly-pecked black doorway,
that looked closed on the tar-lattice street.
Up a wrought iron fire escape.
Rolled out a tiny wooden platform with
dark, hard, dark rubber wheels.
Roll, skreek! Roll, skreek! Roll, skreek!
Sam with the showing scalp flat top,
particular about the point it made.

Sam was a BASKET CASE!

A hardened dark ivory clip held.. saleable everyday pencils.
I wish I had a pair 'o bongos!
Bongo Fury! Bongo Fury!
Oowwwww! Bongo Fury!
(boogie!)
Bongo Fury! Bongo Fury!

21. he really is unwatchable....I tried, for the last time today, to stay
with him during his "interview" with Larry ODonnell

he is completely incapable of letting others finish a thought if they disagree with him in the slightest.

he is THE most obnoxious person I think I've ever seen; worse, even, than Coulter. it's close, but he wins, because he thinks he's even clever, funnier than Coulter thinks she is. It just radiates from him. He has the occasional interesting topic, but his personality is just TOO off-putting to deal with.

I can't believe he gets a stage. what is Abrams thinking, besides not wanting to eat his contract?

28. Tucker is stupid, not doubt. But there are a lot
of people who think Puerto Ricans are immigrants. When I was signing my papers for a job I took in a bank back in the late 80's I remember the very educated seeming HR woman asking me if I was a legal citizen or resident alien and if I had my green card with me. I politely reminded her that Puerto Ricans have been citizens since the very early 20th century. And I have had other such encounters with people. Oh, and I sometimes get asked for help on how to make this or that Mexican recipe. I mean, to some people we are all the same.:eyes:

He's still wrong though but not for that reason. The territory has been under the U.S. government since, I believe, the turn of the century, around 1900.
