Any DUers that have visited Costa Rica?
I just saw some beautiful property, and not too expensive. How is it down there?

1. It's wonderful. You won't regret it.
As far as buying property, be very careful. In fact the reason I was down there was to check on a family's supposed land purchase. It turned out they got swindled.

5. We are there, soon, we hope.
Our heart is in Costa Rica, we may choose someplace else though, for financial and personal reasons.

Hope you are doing well, Swamp Rat. Peace to you and hearts and prayers are with you always. (the ghost of anarchy1999 said to say hi)

4. There's a damn good reason you don't hear about
Costa Ricans emigrating en masse to the USA - They have themselves a wonderful nation. I absolutely love, admire and respect Costa Rica.....

Pura Vida Baby......

7. Yes. We vacationed for 10 days in Costa Rica and

ALMOST moved there. I now wish we had.:( Properties at that time, 15 years ago, were much cheaper than now.

We LOVED the country and we drove one end to the other....it's not very big. IF you like HOT and HUMID weather, the Pacific coast is where you would want to live, The Caribbean coast is very moderate, beautiful weather. 70s during the day. The people are very friendly. The police are CORRUPT. If you rent a car while there, plan on being hustled by the police. We were...TWICE. They know by the rental sticker on your car that you are a tourist.

The FOOD is great. The country is MAJESTIC. The rain forests are amazing. We did a rain forest tour and had monkeys throwing bananas at us. LOL...I kid you not.:) We saw a few sloths. It was so much fun. We traveled to 2 active volcanos....beautiful sight to see.

Their roads SUCK. Plan on flat tires all the time. We had one while there. In fact, when you rent your car, they tell you they will cover the flat tire costs for you...that's how bad it is.

Crime use to be a problem. I don't know if it still is. Some friends of ours went to CR on OUR recommendations and while they were on the beach, their car was broken into and robbed. NEVER leave things in your car that can be seen though the windows...lock your things in the trunk. Always lock your house/hotel room and DON'T leave expensive jewelry or money with the safe deposit clerks at hotels. They steal it.:(

Things MAY have changed in 15 years. I don't know. The country itself is BEAUTIFUL. BREATHTAKING!

9. Beautiful!
Costa Rica has incredible scenery, from mountains to rain forests to beaches, all within a few hours drive. It's also fairly cheap. Lots of Americans live there, so you could probably get by w/o knowing fluent Spanish. The economy is very prosperous, & the democratic government is one of the most stable & successful in Latin America. I wish I could buy a house there!
