If stem cell research is really a great opportunity, why do we have to
have Fed. gov't funds? Sure, it would be great to have additional funding, but I don't think I've heard anything that said no research could continue.

Why wouldn't there be enough funding privately to enable this program to go forward?

I would like to see the Feds fund it too, but I also think we maybe can't afford it right now. We need to get Dem control of the House and the Senate and stop the insanity in Iraq, and the spending on Star Wars! Paybe then we will have the funds to do what is important to all of un!

1. why because it is a responsibility of the government
to improve the healthcare of its inhabitents. The costs associated with many of the catastrophic diseases that stem cell research may offer are worth it. Stem cell research was approved under the state of California, but there have been so many obsticles from the anti-abortionists, that many KEY researchers have already gone abroad where the funding is provided

The space program, the moon, and even Columbus going to the New World would have never occurred without government funding

There is NO GURANTEE of a profit, so corporations may not pursue it. THAT IS WHY YOU NEED GOVERNMENT HELP

2. For the same reason
the federal government funded the internet for 20+ years BEFORE private enterprise jumped on the bandwagon.

private enterprise is not so good on the "long term ROI".

3. Didn't they use government funds to cure polio....?
and to erradicate the great flue epidemic in 1918?

The thing is it's our taxpayer dollars and no administration should have the right to bottleneck our money for their narrow agendas. The money should be from the people for the good of the American people...
