Novak "Source" Warned Reporters About Iraqi WMD Claims
By Jason Leopold

.....................

Fingering Harlow as one of the sources he relied upon for his column that identified Plame Wilson parallels the White House's long-standing tactic of shifting responsibility for all intelligence failures related to pre-war Iraq intelligence onto the CIA.

Novak's close ties to Bush administration officials lead to obvious questions: is Novak being forthcoming about Harlow's true role in the leak, or is the columnist simply pulling a page out of the White House playbook by blaming the CIA?

Writing on Tuesday about his role in the CIA leak case, Novak said that he had relied upon three sources for the column that revealed Plame Wilson's identity and work at the CIA: White House political adviser Karl Rove, an unnamed government official, and "Bill Harlow, the CIA public information officer who was my CIA source for the column confirming Mrs. Wilson's identity."

But Harlow's account, as reported in the Washington Post on July 27, 2005, differs dramatically and suggests that he was never truly a confirming source for Novak.

4. What amazes me, truly amazes me, is that anyone with one eye and
half an asshole would believe even one word Novak says yet the cable networks, MSM, etc, are repeating his words like they are the word of "God". One would think the media had an agenda other than reporting the facts, lol.

Good article by Mr. Leopold, thanks for the link.

5. Harlow & Tenet are writing a book together
"Tenet will give a privileged view of the controversial decision to go to war - providing previously unreported context and background, including an insider's account of how the controversial 'sixteen words' made it into the president's State of the Union speech, the real context of Tenet's own now-famous 'slam-dunk' comment, and the CIA's views on the rise of the Iraqi insurgency," according to a press release issued by the book's publisher.

Tenet and Harlow's book was slated for release in October, close to what's sure to be a contentious mid-term election. Last week, HarperCollins announced that At the Center of the Storm has been delayed until February 2007.

Well isn't that special! The book has been delayed until AFTER the November elections.

7. don't' believe a word Tenet has to say.
it'll be ALL about justifying his total failure to do his duty

just read the very short, concise, and disgusting book by James Risen, State of War, and you'll know what I mean.

this guy is a loathsome, gladhanding creep....the epitome of the feckless, ambitious, bureaucratic ladder climber

he and his toadies are as responsible for the mess we're in as Cheney/Rumsfeld, etal.

8. Harlow admits that he confirmed that
Wilson's wife worked at the CIA. The business about Plame's initiating/authorizing, etc., Wilson's trip is a red herring. Important for Novak's story, and a disputed point, but not really relevant to the outing of Plame herself.

Did anybody claim Harlow confirmed she was covert, or worked for Brewster Jennings?

9. Harlow cannot be a confirming source for Novak's article
although Novak cited him as one. I guess because Harlow told him not to use Valerie's name that was confirmation that she worked at the CIA. However, he told Novak that the "boondoggle" angle was not true, which was one of the assertions in the article.

I would betcha that Rove gave Novak the scoop, told him to contact Armitage, and he also called Harlow so that he could cite a CIA source in the article. But something is missing. The INR report had Valerie's name in it. Whoever looked at the report on the flight to Africa would have known her name. Why would Armitage give Novak her name??? He clearly knew it was classified information. Something and someone is missing from this narrative. And I disagree with those that think Cheney told Novak. I think his primary source for her name is Rove.
