Orgasm cults and Jersey Politics.
From http://www.politicalwire.com comes this piece about Christopher Lyon, a researcher for Tom Kean, Jr.'s senate race against Menendez in New Jersey:

_ _ _ _

Christopher Lyon, an opposition researcher working on Tom Kean Jr.'s (R) proposed film attacking Sen. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) "once sent out thousands of anonymous post cards and automated phone calls accusing a New Hampshire candidate's wife of being in an orgasm cult," the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Previously, Lyon was also involved in researching Willie Horton, "the furloughed killer who became an issue in the 1988 presidential race between Michael Dukakis and George H.W. Bush, and Bill Clinton's background while Clinton was governor of Arkansas."
_ _ _ _

Orgasm cults. You know, that sounds like it would beat the hell out of joining a bowling league.

And are these organizations listed in the Yellow Pages? Because I can't seem to locate them in my local directory...

2. Professional GOP dirty tricksters in NJ
Edited on Thu Jul-13-06 09:57 AM by brentspeak
I encountered them in 2002, when the Club For Growth sponsored robo-calls -- targeted at residents of the 5th Congressional District -- smearing Democratic candidate Ann Sumers.

Result of election: Republican stooge Scott Garrett won.

And a hell of a lot of the time, it's Republicans doing the smearing.

6. I wonder what percentage of the time.
Lee Atwater isn't a legendary dirty trickster for no reason. Karl Rove, either.

Who's our legendary dirty trickster? Why isn't that name as well known?

I think I have a pretty good idea.

That particular kind of idiocy should be criminal. It does no one any good and they get away with it again and again and again. The current laws obviously aren't doing anything to prevent these soulless traitors from continuing to do it.

7. Hi, redqueen. You mention Lee Atwater. And appropriately so.
He is one of the great GOP go-to guys for skullduggery.

And in this era we're living through Karl Rove.

Very good point on why Democrats don't have a "name" operative like Atwater and Rove.

Bingo.

17. It really disgusts me that there's this common perception
that both sides are equally dirty, or corrupt, or incapable of making progress.

That is just not the reality that I perceve... not at all.. not even close.

19. Yep. Atwater and Rove really do raise the bar beyond all Nixonian
levels.

Although Donald Segretti was no slouch. I probably should say "Republicans from the Nixon era onward" instead of limiting it to just anybody named 'Bush.'

8. Well, it WOULDN'T be bad. It's just that Lyon was using it to
smear Democrats.

It's the sort of notion that unhinges the reason of fundies, for example.

14. Exactly. That's part of the reason the same-sex marriage issue
worked for Rove in 2004. It manipulated the fundies' wish to regulate all sexual behaviors.

Confessions of a Christian Cuddler
by Andre Traversa

For those who don't know me, let me preface this column by saying that I am a Bible-thumping, Jesus-loving born-again Christian. I believe the Bible is infallible and am absolutely convinced that Jesus Christ is the only way to God. I'm pro-life and am committed to remaining a virgin until I take the plunge into the uncharted waters of holy matrimony. In other words, I'm one of those dangerous people the mainstream media labels as a member of the religious right.

So, what is a right-wing Christian extremist like me doing endorsing Cuddle Parties? Well, I'll get to that, but first a little digression.

29. Maybe they meant "Orphic Cults," which would be vastly more interesting
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orphicism

The main elements of Orphism differed from popular ancient Greek religion in the following ways:

by characterizing human souls as divine and immortal but doomed to live (for a period) in a "grievous circle" of successive bodily lives.

by prescribing an ascetic way of life which, together with secret initiation rites, was supposed to guarantee not only eventual release from the "grievous circle" but also communion with god(s).

by warning of postmortem punishment for certain transgressions committed during life.

by being founded upon sacred writings about the origin of gods and human beings.

You're an evolved being. But we're dealing with creatures -- Republicans -- who are still clawing through the soil on all fours, slobber flying from their lips, looking for earthworms to eat.

and inquire as to a local chapter in your area.

Tell him he came highly recommended by Rick Santorum's office.
