What exactly is Norwood (R-GA) trying to do to the Voter Rights Act? |
|
I gather it has something to do with changing the test for discriminatory election practices in states. I've not been attending to much this week--been busy--but I've got the debate on now on CSPAN. What are they trying to do? How will changing this advantage them? Because we all know by now that everytime they start tampering with the election process it is to benefit them in an underhanded way. I just don't understand the gain other than to maybe reduce the oversight on states most likely to practice discrimination.

1. Those 25 southern repubs... |

... want the states to decide who and who can't vote. We know what that portends of.

here in Georgia and across the South. They claim they want to stop illegals, felons and dead people from voting but in reality it is a plan to keep Democratic voters from voting. I live in Georgia, and I've never seen an illegal immigrant try to vote. They wouldn't - they couldn't. They don't want to have their names in the system since they're here illegally with forged papers. There are many Mexican immigrants in my town. They live in the shadows and keep to themselves. They are a very closed and tight knit group. As for dead people voting, that sort of practice ceased many years ago. It was a Jim Crow-Boss Hog era tactic by Dixiecrats. As for felons, well, most felons are young black men. It is easy to claim that any young black man is a felon and prevent him form voting by adding his name to a list of felons. The young man would not realize that they were on the list until too late. Not many young black men vote in my city. Many of them have been in and out of jail. The war on drugs has eliminated them as a group of voters. (There is a large poor black and elderly population here. We have 28% poverty rate in my city: one of the highest in the nation)
Norwood a old, white, well-off (dentist) Dixiecrat Republican. He is pandering to his conservative, Dixiecrat base here in Georgia and across the South.
