Ava Lowery Knows Peace Takes Courage

It’s just that I’m passionate about what I’m saying. I know what I'm saying, and it’s true.

Sincerity, honesty, courage, and conscience -- Ava Lowery has them all. She's like a fresh breeze that blew in to replace the stale pundits and Bush administration propagandists who have pushed for war and an endless occupation of Iraq. Ava Lowery first launched her website, Peace Takes Courage, in March, 2005. Much like Cindy Sheehan's foray to Crawford a year ago, Ava's Web-based campaign for truth and peace has proven inspiring and effective. This young girl, who built a Web page and created a steady stream of imagery, music, and news to fill it, is living proof that each of us can make a difference in the struggle for accountability, peace, and a political voice. She's the face of hope and someone who gives the phrase "Support Our Troops" a whole new meaning. We're pleased to share our conversation with her with you.

I saw the CNN interview &, aside from being impressed with your poise, maturity, & knowledge, I loved your charming southern accent. Apparently, the CNN lady thought beforehand that she was going to be interviewing an easy-to-manipulate-to-our-spin 15-year-old, but you not only crushed that notion, you made her look silly & out of touch.

The cherry on top is the fact that you're home-schooled. Why? Because home-schooling is big with the fundamentalists &, perhaps, the fact that you have this in common with them might cause them to take note of your point of view.

You've found your calling, Ava.

21. I'm really proud of you.

Not only are you doing our society good, but you have found something you like. If I could give you some advice, it would be to pursue what you like. Don't graduate from high school and forget your love of what you are doing here. This could take you down a road that fulfills your life. It's not often that people know what they like to do. At your age I was very busy with a multitude of things. I was volunteering my days after school and my summers in a veterans hospital. But I lost track of my medical carreer, and went a different way. I still think I'd have made a great doctor. I regret not following my path. You're going great. Thanks.

28. I like how you referred to your Christianity as your inspiration.

I think it's very effective, and I'm not even a believer though I was raised Catholic much in the same way Dennis Kucinich was - as a charitable catholic.
