Hillary is damned if she does, damned if she doesn't
If any other Democrat had said what she just said about the Bush administration at the MLK event, this forum would be collectively creaming its jeans. But since it's Hillary who said what few other Democrats have the guts to say, she's "pandering"....or "opportunistic"....or "stupid".

The way that this loyal Democrat gets spun around here is simply bizarre. Just as the right wing assholes and the corporate media want you to do, her many detractors here on DU are finding themselves nitpicking over her use of the word "plantation"....instead of focusing on her main message in which she totally KO'd Bush with her remarks about his administration. You've fallen right into their trap...AGAIN.

The only difference between her and the rest of the Democrats who voted to authorize Bush's phony war is that Hillary has the most guts of any of them. For the life of me, I'd just LOVE to see any other high profile Democrat stand up and have the courage to say what she just said about Bush and say it with the same conviction that she just did. JUST ONE.

“I predict to you that this administration will go down in history as one of the worst that has ever governed our country.”....Senator Hillary Clinton

Focus on that!

1. It matters not.
She still can't win a national election.

She will not flip one red state. Sorry.

forth simply by what they have said recently...

There are many things that Hillary has done and said (or not said) before that have turned me off to her being in the presidency and one thing she says isn't going to change that.

Hey, she has 3 years to change my mind :)

6. why is hillary not standing with cindy sheehan?
why did she take back the kiss she'd given arafat's wife years ago when she was first lady?
why ....?

there is no comparison between hillary, barbara bush, laura bush, lynn cheney, condoleeza rice, elizabeth dole or any of the rest of them. hillary beats them all fair and square ... i just wish she would not be so influenced by the moment to go back on some of her principles and believes.

12. Nice of Hillary to make this speech, however
Her complaints about dissent being squelched by Bushco ring rather hollow when she has dissented so very little, and has in fact been a huge supporter of this misadministration's almost every policy. Thus, she comes off as hollow and opportunistic.

15. Just confirms that opposition to Hillary...
For many here is not a rational process. Some will criticise her no matter what she does, or what evidence shows.

17. No, it isn't like our opposition is based in the reality that she
Voted for, and vociferously supported an illegal, immoral war, voted for the bankruptcy bill, has helped confirm even the most extreme Bush appointrments(think Ashcroft) and has tried to divert attention away from her record with such BS stunts like calling for censorship of video games. The reality of the matter is that in a party full of conservative Democrats, she is one of the most RW. Not suprising, given that she started her political life as a Goldwater Girl, and hasn't deviated much from those premises, the Democratic party finally swung far enough to the right for her to feel at home here.

Sorry, but this was simply another self serving political speech by Hillary. She is seeing that public sentiment is turning against the war, against Bush, thus she puts out this speech in order to not be perceived as being behind the curve. I'm sure that if Bush was still enjoying high poll numbers, these words would have never passed her lips.

Hillary is going to have to do a lot more than this to silence her opposition within the party. Opportunistic speeches and taking a stand against the president after the tide has turned is the easy, political thing to do. Let's here her come out foursquare against this war, call for the troops return home NOW, and start calling for impeachment on the floor of the Senate. Then she'll start getting the recognition she wants. But taking the easy path after the trail has already been blazed and cut can be done by any opportunistic political hack.

20. Exactly, she is a politician, not a true leader
She is too busy reading the polls and basing her actions on those polls. I would be more convinced if she were to actually be AHEAD of the polls in her actions. Imagine that?!

It is so obvious, that at this time, she is the anointed Democrat to run for President. Before the Primaries, before her actual announcement of running. The writing is on the wall. I just hope that something between now and 08' stops that, because she wouldn't be elected as President AND I don't think too many things would change if she were.

Sure some policies would change, but the corruptness in Washington would not. All of the years that she has been in Washington, and she hasn't said much of anything about the horrible complacency (Democrats) and corruptness (Republicans mainly) in Washington DC.

She voted for the Iraq war, which even lowly me knew that it was a farce. She was silent for way too long on how wrong the war was/is.

A woman, any woman would have a hard time getting elected to the WH. Hillary Clinton is one of the most polarizing figures in the Senate 1st, her last name is Clinton, 2nd, she is a woman. Again it doesn't take a Harvard, Yale Degree to know that she would only become President if the election were to be rigged, or she was the only one running. I will not support that no matter what.

22. I'd like to see you back those statements up
where you said "The reality of the matter is that in a party full of conservative Democrats, she is one of the most RW. Not suprising, given that she started her political life as a Goldwater Girl, and hasn't deviated much from those premises, the Democratic party finally swung far enough to the right for her to feel at home here."

How about coughing up some evidence that proves she's as rightwing as you claim. That is simply a lie. She is not RW, not even close, but go ahead and make empty claims if you want.

18. I would hazard a guess that outside the political junkies
working for other candidates, the general
Democratic public supports her running for
higher office. If she continues telling the
truth ala Gore yesterday, she will garner
more political junkies also.

21. I think that you would be guessing wrong
Unless she really comes out foursquare against the war, taking it to the floor of the Senate and demanding that we get out NOW, she will not have the support of the left wing of the party, nor the support of the anti-war people in the party. The DLC is trying to push her down our throats, but I think she stands a decent chance of being beaten in the primaries, and would lose for certain in the general election, if for no other reason that the left and anti-war people being so pissed they either stay home or vote third party.

Hillary is not the candidate we need, nor want.
