Christian group to advocate more support for Israel
By Julia Duin
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
Published July 13, 2006

More than 3,000 pro-Israel evangelical Christians will be in town next week for a "Washington/Israel summit" to push the Bush administration toward stronger support for the Jewish state.

....

...Several members of Congress also are scheduled to attend, including Republican Sens. Sam Brownback of Kansas and Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, both Catholics. Leading evangelicals that have confirmed their invitations include the Rev. Jerry Falwell and Gary Bauer.

Their host will be Texas evangelist the Rev. John C. Hagee, pastor of the 18,000-member Cornerstone Church in San Antonio and author of "Jerusalem Countdown," a 2006 book about a nuclear-armed Iran.

...Mr. Hagee said American evangelicals must provide cover for Israel in the case of a pre-emptive attack -- "as a last resort," he specified -- on Iran.

"We are not going to be silent," he said. "We are organizing Christians from coast to coast to express themselves in the support of Israel. I don't believe Congress has a clue how much grass-roots support for Israel exists in the evangelical community."

....

Mr. Hagee also is setting up an "Israel Rapid Response" network of e-mails, faxes and phone calls to mobilize voters. Such efforts have not gone unnoticed overseas. The Israeli daily Ha'aretz dispatched a reporter to San Antonio, who in a May 5 article labeled the effort "a magnificent evangelical industry."

....

"Reverend Hagee's organization is representative of the depth and breadth of American support of the U.S.-Israel relationship," said AIPAC spokeswoman Jennifer Cannata. "We definitely see this a positive sign."

1. Are these people just completely clueless?
How do they come up with the idea that the U.S. doesn't support Israel. What do they think the U.S. should be doing?

6. To answer your question, you would have to see a Hagee Sermon
At a previous address I used come across Rev. Hagee's sermons on CBN. If there ever was an epitome of a rapture watcher he'd be it. And it's not just him. He's grooming his son too!
Watching Hagee on one of his screeds can be unnerving. Equally unnerving is the number of people who attend these tirades.
Anything secular is attacked. Especially those things involving science.
Hearing about Hagee calling for some sort of total and unconditional, U.S. provided cover for Israel does not surprise me in the least.

7. I know what you mean
Back in the days that I was studying Hitler it was not him that bothered me, as obviously he was a madman, it was the people who followed him. As these are the people who are your next door neighbor, the people you work with, the guy who brings you your mail.

9. Hagee's ministry has produced several rapture movies starring GBusby
I've heard him in person. In one sermon he called San Antonio the witchcraft capitol of the US.

In another, he made many jokes about overweight women; jokes about/against women seem to be 'in' with many pentecostal preachers. As a friend said 'HE's talking about being overweight?????'

2. In other words they are going to insert themselves in the
diplomatic process as we have seen over the last six years....it amazes me that they spend this money to support another country but the won't take care of their own communities...

4. They WANT Israel to be ever more warlike, to provoke Armageddon...
I kid you not, this is their aim. Every act they take is in furtherance of this deluded nightmare. Why bother to take care of your community when Jesus is coming day after tomorrow? Or next week, at the latest, and then it won't matter. See?

5. You are right the timing is suspect....
but what I find interesting is the Zeal that Israel is attacking Lebanon (don't get me wrong, there should be some type of punishment for the kidnapping of the Israeli soldiers) but this massive attacking.....something else must be going on...

11. "STRONGER support for Israel"?!
We support them diplomatically, we've armed them to the teeth, and we've given the State of Israel trillons of dollars in foreign and economic aid.

How much more support do they need?
