6. Defense fund? You mean Plaintiff's fund, don't you? |
|
Edited on Fri Jul-14-06 03:43 AM by Jazz2006
And the answer is no.
Ms. Plame's multimillion dollar book deal that she signed as a result of her "outing" will more than cover their expenses.
And I think it's kind of sleazy for wealthy folks to ask others to fund their civil litigation when it is obvious that they don't need anyone's financial help.
I prefer to donate to worthy causes, such as those in which plaintiffs with a good case and no money are fighting the good fight and need assistance. I'm not big on sending money to those who don't need it.

7. Agreed. And I already contributed.... |

having purchased Wilson's book. Hell, these people have way more money than I do. I wish them well in their pursuit of justice, but....

I hope they take them to the cleaners!
But they don't need any money from me to get there. Bill and Hillary Clinton paid their own legal bills from the years of bullshit. They never set up something like this.
Go get 'em Joe and Val!!
I'm rootin' for ya!

But, since I don't have any big-bucks book deals to live on, I'll hold onto my money to buy things like food.

There's so many worthwhile causes. If people really want to support an organization that's fighting the Bush Ad. in court, I'd suggest the ACLU.

This is a good opportunity for people at the grassroots level to contribute to one of the most impoortant cases of our time.

They shouldn't have to spend their money no matter how much they have. This is about principle.

You mean a plaintiff's fund? And no way. If they win a civil lawsuit, the Wilsons & their legal team can collect the damages - including compensatory damages, punitive damages & attorneys' fees.

25. yes, I am sure the lawyers are working on a consignment basis |
|
just like with most lawsuits like this. if they were getting sued, I might consider a donation, but since they are actively suing, their attorneys can figure out the whole thing. it's pretty sad, actually.

They are the plaintiff's. And yes. I am donating. Book deals or not. I want to show my support.

21. One response I got when I sent the URL to someone... |
|
"think that $2.5 million book deal will be enough to cover the legal costs..."
Personally, I still think it's important to support them. And, the book deal $ may not be there when they need it. Also, attorney's fees are like medical expenses. They can add up damn fast.

22. I was worried about the legitimacy of the site... |
|
...because the email address is a hotmail account. But then I found that the phone number on the press release is their lawyer's office, and he says they specifically authorized the donor site. So I guess he's handling the donations.

24. Personally, I think they have enough money and fame to go it without my |
|
donation. I am donating to the CA-50 action committee so we can get the votes properly counted in san diego. A much more difficult battle with no rich sponsors.... not knocking the Wilsons at all. I love them, but they really have access to a lot of money.

27. I think if anyone has even $10 to spare, to donate it to this Legal fund. |
|
Ironically, this case may be what brings our country back from the brink. Personally, if I had to choose between where I will get more "bang" for my buck, donating to the DCCC or to the Joe Wilson & Valerie Plame Legal Fund, I think the legal fund will produce actual results and do more.
