Jesus Hates Your SUV

PO'd at the pump
Some small business owners are turning their frustration over high oil and gas prices into big bucks.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Along with record high prices for crude oil, prices at the pump have soared in recent weeks. And consumers, as well as small business owners, seem to have have had enough.

When Srini Kumar wrote "The world is drunk on oil" and put it on a sticker, he discovered that other people would be glued to his creation.

After graduating from Stanford in 1993, Kumar started coming up with slogans to poke fun at American culture and then set out to spread his ideas through subversive stickers.

His company, StickerNation.com, averaged around $12,000 per month in sales in 2005.

...

When prices at the pump surpassed $3 a gallon near her home in Massachusetts, Wicked Trendy T-shirts owner and designer Tamara Cressley got fed up.

...

By marketing T-shirts with slogans such as "petrosexual" and "Jesus hates your S.U.V.," Dangerous Breeds pulled down $35,000 in revenue last year.

1. I think this anti-SUV thing has run its course
Edited on Fri Jul-14-06 02:48 PM by RobertSeattle
I own a Toyota Hybrid SUV - it probably gets better gas mileage than most cars. (I average in the 27 mpg range)

And since the real goal is moving PEOPLE EFFICIENTLY - not the vehicle itself - 8 people in a Suburban is still better than 1 person in a Prius.

3. How often do you have 8 people....
in your vehicle? Never run it with only 1?

6. I remember waiting for the bus one day & doing a little counting.
I found that 90% of the SUVs that drove by had only one person in it & about 75% of the cars had only the driver.
I have done this more than once & it always is more SUV with no passengers than it is cars. Huuummmmmmm?????

9. Someone should do a study of that
Average # of riders in a SUV -vs- regular vehicles.

21. I see SUV's all over LA everyday with one person in them
It's that kind of gas guzzling that has put us into these oil grabbing wars.

7. I'm just making a point about efficiency
I almost only drive my SUV when I have my wife and my two kids with me.

Our Prius is our "one person" car.

10. Why is it a one-person car?
I've ridden in a Prius, and it easily can hold 4 people plus some cargo in the back. If you only have a wife and two kids, why use the SUV? Camping?

4. I think they were referring not to the "SUV"s of Toyota and
Honda, but of the Titanic-size SUVs of Chevy, Ford, and Hummer. Your hybrid should be find. You have to admit that SUVs like the Chevy Suburban and the Hummer H2 are real gas-guzzling pieces of shit that keep up more dependent on oil.

5. I'm lookin' at 8 people in 8 Suburbans right now.
Actually, they're a mix of Excursions and Expeditions, along with Suburbans, waiting in line at idle for their lone drivers to pick up a $3.00 cup of coffee.

The century of the private car is over; most people just haven't found out yet.

8. 27 mpg won't cut it
27 mpg is better than many cars, but that's because most cars get crappy fuel mileage to begin with. With the era of cheap oil over, 40-50 mpg may be a more realistic number to demand. If that results in small subcompact cars like the Toyota Yaris or Scion xA, so be it. Need to travel long distances with 8 people, go to a rent-a-car place and pay a couple hundred bucks for a 3-4 day rental of a hybrid SUV or a van.

16. Define "Most cars"
Most American made V8s? Or most cars worldwide? My full gas 6 cyl BMW get's 30 MPG on the highway, around 28 city.

20. If your hybrid SUV gets 27 mpg with only you in it
It won't get that much filled with 8 people. The weight will cause more gas use. I think your theory is flawed.

14. Nothing.
But you'll never be able to live it down. That's for sure.

And at 11 mpg, you're treading on thin ice. we'll have to kick you out of the club.
