Nutjob christians stop everything...waiting for the rapture
Here you go:

My DH I have talked aboout the speed of things happening so fast,it's exciting to see all this come about. We're suppose to leave next week for vacation DH staed we may not have much longer to worry with gas prices, and every thing else. Even so Lord Jesus come quickly!

----------------------

Me too ..... I cant seem to get interested in ANYTHING since all this started. I go to do something.. and lose the desire.... all I want to do is read rapture ready and watch the news.. (should probably be reading my bible more)

----------------------

I think that things are going really fast now!! Come Lord Jesus!!

---------------------

Last night on the news the anaylists and people being interviewed were looking for the AC and they don't even realize it. They were saying things like "We need a powerful person to come in with a plan - someone with authority who everyone can agree with"

I think this is really IT - there has been no other time in history that lines up so exact with the end times prophecies. I am having a hard time grasping the fact that we could LITERALLY be raptured at any moment and it's getting harder to "Occupy" my time and do my work, so I pray that either this is it or God will help me stay focused on my work until He comes.

----------------------

I will be surprised if we have another week before we see The Lord supernaturally defend Isreal. COME QUICKLY LORD!! WE ARE ALL SOOOOOOOO READY TO GO HOME!!!!!!!!!

--------------------

I took off work today just to be home to watch the news and be here with fellow believers...

-------------------

http://www.rr-bb.com/showthread.php?t=265184

It's storming here. Would gawd rapture during bad weather?

1. so, in a month or five, when they're not ratpured, what happens?
Will they go insane? On killing rampages? Turn against their Republican overlords? What?

35. Hard to say
But disillusionment on that sort of scale, touching as many people who have been in such close touch as I suspect the end-timers surely are, will touch off a wide range of responses. Some of them will surely be mad as hell. What they do with their anger will be based on their personal dispositions. Some of them will turn against the Republicans. Some of them will feel they've been sold out by dollar-hawking hucksters in pulpits. Some of them will withdraw from public life to greater and lesser degrees and for varying lengths of time. Some will surely be nudged over into batshit insanity -- quiet insanity or the noisy kind that makes for compelling headlines.

I think you'll see a lot of depressed people for sure, people who just flat won't give a flying fuck about anything. After getting past the disappointment, some of them will surely take a good, hard look at the life they had been leading, and resolve to do something better, and they will. But the larger, much larger, portion will be seriously (one might almost say righteously) angry, and it's difficult to say what any one of them would do. Remember, though, that they've been actively rooting for the complete annihilation of about three-fourths of humanity in a cataclysmic event. What do you suppose some of them will do when it doesn't happen to their satisfaction or on their timetable?

64. Uh uh. They will shrug it off.
Most of them will adjust their reality and continue their lives. The severely pathological might do some of those things, but if not this, it would be something else. For the non-pathological, (I didn't say they were smart, or alert, or even conscious,) their defenses will take over, and their disappointments(!) will be displaced.

93. Yep. Fundies move the goalposts constantly.
Prayers not answered? God isn't ready to answer them. Somebody you've been praying for dies? God wanted to call them home. Rapture didn't happen? God's not ready.

Their 'God' wins every time, because they constantly change the goal.

112. That's not how cults operate.
When a bunch of end-of-the-world nuts sit on a hillside on the day they've decided the world will end and nothing happens, it does not make them cringe with embarrassment that they were wrong. Oh, no, far from it. For them, the non-occurrence of the predicted event proves they were right. Their extreme correctness caused God to change his mind, I guess.

Trust me. The continuing non-occurrence of the Rapture proves beyond a doubt that it is coming. That is the way these benighted people "think".

37. Most of what is happening now
is happening because they didn't get their armeggedon when the ball dropped for the end of the 20th century.

The attitude was the same 1000 years ago (although they didn't term it 'the rapture' then). The only difference is that this time they have the influence and the weapons to make it happen.

The destruction, not the rapture. Nothing can make a fairy tale come true.

98. cirque du soleil
One of Peter Gent's novels has a character speaking about some redneck radio revivalist talking about the rapture. The character states that she can't decide whether the preacher is describing a religious event or some sort of aerial experimental ballet.I'm pretty much always put in mind of some of the more esoteric cirque du soleil routines.I also believe there's a regular over at DKos whose tag line is "after the rapture we get all their stuff". A previous poster mentions the great disappointment which I'd take to be a reference to the millerites a millenialist cult of the 19th century who, if I recall correctly, suffered more than one great disappointment. When nothing anti-gravitational happens to these folks we'll all be able to observe another defining characteristic of the true believer which is their almost limitless ability to rationalize events. Meantime they're fairly good entertainment at least from a safe distance.

14. This is what the Rapture is all about gang:
The countries of the world offer their thanks as deserts become gardens and armies are disbanded. We next see people standing in line to board spaceships as the reciprocal flights to the Kanamit's planet begin. They are weighed upon entry, and speak of upcoming events as we would speak before embarking on a vacation.

Chambers and his assistant, Pat, discuss all the recent events. They note that there are no more codes to decipher, that nearly 2000 Kanamits are now on earth, and how easily man decides to go off to a strange planet. In fact, they are both on a waiting list to go. Although Chambers has given up on deciphering the book, Pat states that she is still working on it and getting close to a translation.

Chambers is now in line to board the spaceship. As he is ascending the steps, Pat rushes up desperately trying to get his attention. As she is held back by the Kanamits she warns Chambers, "Don't get on the ship. The book, To Serve Man, IT'S A COOKBOOK!" A struggling Chambers is forced into the ship.

Sending me your money will be this huge joke you and all your fellow rapturists can share in your garden of eden. You'll laugh your wings off at the silly non-believer left behind...with your money.

You want to leave this world behind and I could always use the extra cash. So send me your money. Now. Quickly. The end is near.

They believe they can take all their goods with them. Thats why they don't want the rich taxed, they actually believe they will take their earthly possessions with them into the after life. Benny Hinn and the rest of the TV scam artists have been telling them that for years, not only can they load up their Caddies with riches, they can also drive to heaven in comfort and style.

Oh yeah,. a similar thread was posted yesterday pulling from the same site, and this gem was among the posts:

If He tarries, I will just have time to get my hair and nails done (you know let all I come into contact with know of my Bridegroom and what He has/will do). So i am all spiffied up for Him when He does arrive to take me home. No disappointment, just a few last minute details to take care of to be more pleasing to look at. Sound the shofar! Let the Enemy know the alert has been sounded and Yeshua is stepping onto the battlefield.

104. You just helped clear something up for me.
Last week a rapture enthusiast stopped at our house. My husband answered the door and she gave us a leaflet about the end-times and asked if he could take a few minutes to pray with her. He said he couldn't. She went next door, and as I watched her walk away I was struck by what she was wearing. For one thing, she was carrying her purse on her shoulder. She was wearing old-lady style high heel sandals, a grey calf-lenghth wool skirt, and a long sleeve white ruffly dress shirt. I couldn't understand why someone going door-to-door on a hot and humid day would be dressed like that. It was very inappropriate attire for both the occasion and the weather. Who carries their shoulder-bag door-to-door handing out brochures?

Now that I've read your post I have one possible explanation: that she dresses this way at all times in case the rapture comes unexpectedly soon, kind of like the lady from your post who will be getting nails done so that she looks good when Jesus scoops her up for their "date with destiny."

They look at this as the start of peace. The last and final war. An end to poverty, illness, etc and so on.

So in that sense, they cheer it - even though the death and hell people are going through (a tribulation) is bad and hurts people, it is the beginning of the end of the bad things.

Makes sense, to a point, when viewed as this.

126. Except for the people they think are going to hell.
I remember when I used to be a Christian it always bothered me that people would wish for the end of the world (or rapture, or whatever they believed) even though they thought they KNEW it would mean not only immediate suffering, but in fact eternal hellfire for millions of people. I guess I'm not as nice as you. I think they're cheering for their own selfish benefit and don't seem to care much about others, regardless of what may befall them.

In fact, for me it was the whole idea of hell that eventually sparked my painful but necessary abandonment of Christianity. I figured that if *I* was compassionate and moral enough to realize that torturing ANYone for ever and ever was sadistic and wrong, that any "god" ought to have been able to figure it out.

51. I have absolute respect for the RIGHT of people to follow any religion.
This does not mean I will always respect the religion itself. I do not respect these crazy bastards who encourage conflict and destruction in the absurd belief that war in the ME will bring about "the Rapture" so they can go "home" to Jesus. Aside from the fact that this Rapture hooey doesn't appear anywhere in the Bible (it was the brain-fart of some loon named Darby in the late 19th-century), I can think of no justification for desiring the deaths of thousands of people just to satisfy the perverse eschatology of somebody's crackpot religion. Rapture, my ass. If there's a hell, these damn fools will surely roast there.

113. That's what I have been thinking.
As I read these crazy florid posts about "sounding the shofar" (wha?) and getting "spiffed up" to be spirited away by God, the only thing I can come up with is "these people are mentally ill".

It would be interesting to compile some quotations from truly disturbed people in mental institutions and a separate set of quotes from wacko Christian Rapture nutjobs. Would anybody be able to tell the difference?

I think excessive religion should be classified as an official mental illness. As I look at the world today, it is amazing how many of humanity's problems stem directly from the relatively small minority who are religious fundamentalists. Can there be any doubt that religion is the biggest threat to mankind as a whole? (Before you say global warming is worse, remember that the religious nuts "don't believe in it" and won't allow us to do anything about it.)

85. At some point, we are going to have to deal with many dispirited people.
Each will respond to the death of his or her fantasy in his or her own way, or course, but many, I would think, will become dispirited and leave their church.

At that time, some will be seeking, and teachable, and we will need to welcome them into our communities and help them get over it.

I think we need to keep our eyes open for these people, because once they are freed of this fantasy that has overwhelmed their lives (and their reason, imo), they will turn in different directions, some will end up in the reality based world.

They will be traumatized, and some of us hopefully will be able to help some of them to heal.

of an appropriate sketch (with Peter Cook, the original writer) - "The End of The World":

Peter :
Con..sum..éd? No, we shall not be consuméd - we shall be up on the mountain here, you see, while millions burn, having a bit of a giggle.
Jon :
When will it be, this end of which you have spoken?
Omnes :
Aye, when will it be - when will it be?
Peter :
In about thirty seconds time, according to the ancient pyramidic scrolls... and my Ingersoll watch.

120. They're trying to figure out how to destroy Damascus
That's got to be gone first.

If a WMD attack against Israel were to occur however, then it suddenly becomes very easy to imagine a nuclear weapon being used on Damascus. (Regarded as most as being the indusputable central command of several of the more active terrorist organizations)

Then this:

They've got Saddam's weapons, and are going to use them against Israel.

Israel will then have to reply in kind, and it will escalate to the point of large scale death and destruction in Israel, and at that point, Israel will exercise their Samson option which will obliterate Damascus and the rest of Islam.

Add a little Bushbot propaganda...

I never connected the dots til now but you make an interesting statement. Those WMD's of Saddam's didn't just get up and walk away. They were helped. It's always been suspected that they went to Syria.

124. It really is sad actually...
This kind of thinking has been around for more than 200 years in the U.S. The Millerites, to some extent the Shakers etc...all waiting for the end times. When it doesn't occur some have alot of trouble dealing with it, and some commit suicide.

129. What exactly were you expecting to find -
- on the "RAPTURE READY MESSAGE FORUM"? Not all Christians are nutjobs and certainly not all are on the Rapture Ready forum.

Why you would intentionally seek them out if their message and opinion bothers you?
