Small Pa. City Passes Law Against Illegals
The ordinance would deny licenses to businesses that employ illegal immigrants, fine landlords $1,000 for each illegal immigrant discovered renting their properties, and require city documents to be in English only.

I whole heartedly agree. About time. And I consider myself a moderate.

1. I wonder if the town will racially profile
Edited on Fri Jul-14-06 08:42 PM by insane_cratic_gal
It's citizen's and discriminate and accuse without first knowing the truth?

I think this is a bad idea because it allows for racial profiling, any mexican nor NON white person is going to be scrutinized?

Don't you agree on some level it's not the correct approach?

What is the town going to do every time they see a lation ask for a green card or birth certificate?

2. At least the town is going after.............
.....those who employ and house the illegal aliens. It's a start. Some, however, don't want anything done about the problem.

13. there is something chilling about people
who get all creamy about laws being passed against classes of people. any people.

it's just one more way to dehumanize people and a way to make victimizing them more palatable to the hoi polloi.

8. I think it's a great idea! All along, I've said the people to punish
are the employers, especially those who deliberately hire illegals to exploit them.

For a while, I filled in as HR person until we found a new one, and we were very careful to make sure we had valid ID and completed I9. The firt tipoff is when there's a problem with the SS #. All these employers who claim they can't tell, or didn't know are doing a snow job! It's quite easy to verify citizenship.

I can't fault oppressed people for trying for a better life for themselves and their families, but for employers to exploit them through low wages, and inhumane treatment just makes matters worse. Those eployers know the illegals won't complain because they're afraid of getting caught!

I think the INS needs a major overhaul, because it shouldn't take 10+ years to become a legal resident in the US, and THAT'S what we should be fighting for, not to overlook anyone breaking the laws.
