Will the Iraqi Civil War kill more people than Saddam did?
I think that it's quickly catching up or may have even succeeded it...

1. I think we have already outdone Saddam in number of
people who have died since America went into Iraq, but you see that's ok because we are killing people so that we can bring freedom and democracy too them. That's completely different that what Saddam was doing and besides that G-d told George that was what he was suppose to do.

So don't worry, since the big guy checked us off on it, we have no moral culpability here.

2. George H W Bush forced "no Clorox/Chlorine" into the Iraq embargo - and

500,000 - mostly children - died from unsafe water (Clinton did not have the political courage - or knew Congress would over rule him - on letting chlorine - "a possible component of a chemical weapon" into Iraq).

But the media dismisses that fact since no one was ordered to death.

Likewise the "cost of bringing democracy to Iraq in terms of Iraqi civilian deaths" will not be deemed caused by W Bush.

3. Didn't the Lancet
give the latest estimates at 300,000? We're crossing the line into genocide.

4. I saw the 150,000 - I didn't know about the 300,000 excess deaths estimate
It's not genocide, in my opinion, as its not based on religion/tribe, but it is a crime against humanity.

5. If you get rid of all those pesky Iraqi citizens, there is no one left
to dispute the sale of the oil fields. That in my opinion is genocide. Both are crimes against humanity.

6. I wish our media would discuss Bush's "crimes against humanity" -but
I won't hold my breath waiting for such a discussion.

10. They weren't too interested in the 4 million civilians killed in Vietnam
either. We have a very ugly government. Someday we are going to have to pay the piper,

8. here's some linkage
Edited on Sat Jul-15-06 09:49 AM by blogslut
I believe the 300,000 number is the high end of the estimate.

As for the word genocide -I don't know the definition. I will say it's a more honest word than that horrid term "ethnic cleansing".

EDIT: oops. forgot the linkage

7. I saw a Lancet estimate of 100,000 deaths, but that was almost 2 years ago
Iraq death toll 'soared post-war'

Poor planning, air strikes by coalition forces and a "climate of violence" have led to more than 100,000 extra deaths in Iraq, scientists claim.

A study published by the Lancet says the risk of death by violence for civilians in Iraq is now 58 times higher than before the US-led invasion.

9. It already has. Just as the attack on Lebanon has killed more Israeli
soldiers than the three that are being held by Hezbollah.
