FORT STEWART, Ga. - A soldier accused of deserting the Army 2 1/2 years ago has been arrested by sheriff's deputies in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Spc. Alan Saltman, 23, went absent without leave from Fort Stewart on Feb. 24, 2004, according to Army records. He was being held Friday by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Department.

"The military is working with civilian authorities to get him transferred to Fort Stewart," said Maj. Alayne Conway, a Fort Stewart spokeswoman. "But we don't expect him until next week."

Sheriff's deputies arrested Saltman at his home Tuesday after the military took out a warrant for his arrest. Authorities could not say how long Saltman had been living in Florida.

1. "Take this job and shove it."
I wonder how many troops in Iraq right now would like to just quit and get a real job.

2. That's why they're in the military now.

Because, thanks to the BushCo economy, they couldn't find any other kind of income for themselves or their families anywhere else.

3. I would suggest that the young man
call george bush as a witness. Not as commander in chief but as fellow deserter.
