Is Bush for real? "Hezbollah should lay down their arms." Talk about |
|
out of touch. Would he suggest Israel should lay down their arms, return Palestinian lands, and stop their occupation? The statement he did make is just as ridiculous. I hope American never again elects such a buffoon to the office of President.

1. But Hezbollah *should* lay down their arms |
|
Read the Lebanese blogs somebody posted. Most of the Lebanese people are very pissed at Israel but even more pissed at Hezbollah for continuing the fighting after Israel withdrew and not disarming like the UN told them to.
Remember the "Cedar Revolution" last year? That was Lebanese people showing that they didn't like Syria (directly or through Hezbollah) controlling Lebanon's future.

In a related provision, the Council called for the disbanding and disarmament of all Lebanese and non-Lebanese militias. It also called upon all parties concerned to cooperate fully and urgently with the Council for the full implementation of all its resolutions concerning the restoration in Lebanon of territorial integrity, full sovereignty and political independence. http://www.un.org/News/Press/docs/2004/sc8181.doc.htm

4. this is a chess move, like asking Iran to stop nuke enrichment while |
|
they "negotiate" with the Bushies.
Once the Iranians see that the negotiations are pointless, they would restart enrichment, which is perfectly legal under non-proliferation treaty, and Bush would have an excuse to attack.
This is the same thing. Bush "gives them a chance" simply so it looks like he's being reasonable before he jumps in.

5. That won't stop Israel - they are looking to occupy Lebanon. |
|
These are military targets they are hitting, not just Hezbollah's offices.

7. Why Do They Want To Occupy Lebanon? |
|
They occupied it for twenty years and then peacefully vacated it because the resources in life and dollars to maintain the occupation were so costly.

13. They want the US to occupy Lebanon |
|
for them. Remember 1982? Lt Col Kwiatkowski reports that even now plans are being laid and orders going out to land the US Marines - again. "Clean Break" in action here.

16. Ahem, we are talking about |
|
the genius of George Bush, Dick Cheney, Richard Perle, Paul Wolfowitz, and Don Rumsfeld here. Their achievements and judgment should be respected, nez pas? Eh, you can count on stupid arrogant corrupt people to keep on behaving that way, forever.

19. That's what Bush is saying, but Syria pulled out of Lebanon last year |
|
After occupying it for 21 years after the US pulled out after 1984.
Hezbollah is only a small part of the Lebanese people.
Just like a small group of people who live in other countries, they don't control the government.

8. The lebanese government is unable to get Hezbollah to lay down their arms |
|
The UN resolution and lebanese government both guaranteed Hezbollah would lay down their arms and join the lebanese government - it has not happened. They joined the government but are still an independent military that attacks Israel and is supplied by Iran.

12. There used to be a saying |
|
"He hasn't the good sense that god gave a gnat!" I guess it's as true today as then.
All we need now is to put wheels on the White House to complete the impression that our country has become red neck. I'm surprised that there aren't a bunch of limos scattered all over the White House lawn in various stages of disrepair.
(With appologies to red necks everywhere.)

15. Bush and his whole administration should admit they stole the 2004 |

election, step down immediately, and let Kerry Edwards take over the White House. Then maybe we'd hear something intelligent from those quarters.

18. The only thing Hamas and Hezbollah have in common, |
|
apart from a general Islamist theocracy as their goal, is hatred of Israel. And, presumably, some arrogance in thinking they're better than others and should be in charge of things.
Hezbollah plays off the Palestinian issue, but when it comes to having large Palestinian concentration camps on territory Hezbollah controls, they have no problem making sure those nasty Palestinians keep in their place. Like the Shebaa Farms, it's a pretext, fairly transparent to people that actually take Hezbollah's writings at face value. It's an affront to Islam for Jews to be occupying Waqf, to have humbled Muslims and Arabs, and to control the territory; for Israel to have invaded Lebanon in the first place, and to dare hold those innocent people who were only righteously trying to kill Jews as prisoner.
The Palestinians ... maybe allies if they gain their own state. Otherwise, pfff.

20. That Is Exactly What Hezbollah Should Do, Ma'am |
|
And some while ago to boot: they were ordered to do so by the Security Council, and the Lebanese government ordered to enforce this if Hezbollah did not comply voluntarily.
