Oh no!!! Anthony Bourdain is stranded in Lebanon!!!

be safe, Anthony!!! :scared:

July 14, 2006 -- CELEBRITY chef Anthony Bourdain was stranded in war-ravaged Beirut yesterday after Israeli forces bombed the city's international airport and blockaded all of Lebanon's ports.

The best-selling author of "Kitchen Confidential" flew to Beirut on Sunday with a camera crew from his Travel Channel series, "No Reservations," to do a show on the local cuisine. But after the thunderous assault on the city in response to Islamic extremist group Hezbollah's capture of two Israeli soldiers, Bourdain and his crew holed up at the Moevenpick Hotel while they waited for evacuation instructions from the State Department.

"Our network, our friends and our families just want us out of here as soon as possible," Bourdain told Page Six yesterday afternoon, as Israeli shells exploded in the distance. "We're not getting a show out of this . . . I just wanna hang out and drink at the bar. The mojitos here are great.

"They're bombing right now in southern Beirut. I can hear the explosions. The thing is, the people here are really, really nice and totally embarrassed by Hezbollah and horrified by the bombings."

4. Thanks Cat Woman - Anthony is one of
the good guys :patriot: - as far as I can tell - I mean, at least he travels around the world, hangs with the locals and bonds over food, drink and well, who knows what else! :smoke:
My thoughts will be with him.

7. One of my favorite chefs
I just ordered one of his books from the library. Sometimes you just need a complete change of pace. I'm keeping the good thoughs going for him, his crew and all in Lebanon.

8. He's having drinks and watching the rockets
which is pretty much what you'd expect he'd be doing :)
“Thanks for the good thoughts and well wishes. We are all of us (Diane, Jerry, Toddles, Tracey and me) in good health, good spirits and working ferociously on our tans and sipping blender drinks while watching the fireworks from a secure location. Our masters at Travel Channel have made sure we are being well looked after. Though I’m not sure the “gold-plated, monkey-navigated rocket-sled” I requested as an exfiltration vehicle will be laid on imminently…we have nothing to complain about. Particularly compared to the locals who are having an atrocious time of it. This is a great city–filled with many lovely, proud and generous people and it’s heartbreaking missing so much of it. Worse seeing all that pride and hope and tolerance turn overnight to grim resignation. Hope to return to shoot here someday and finish what we started.”

11. Me too
Sometimes he's more pirate than chef. You'd figure he'd be digging the spectacle, too jazzed to be afraid :hi:

16. Maybe you hit the nail on the head..."more pirate than chef."
Sometimes I wonder about all these tv travelers who manage to wander into the distant reaches of the planet, recording the landscape up close, investigating the capabilities and knowledge of their populations all for the "masters" of whom Bourdain spoke. These folks have to be included in the One World Government, too.

Wonder why he picked this particular time to go to Lebanon? With the soldier being captured and all?
I think that would have been hint enough that some shit would hit the fan over there.
