Several days to evacuate Americans from Lebanon?
I just heard this on one of the cable news networks. An article was posted earlier that indicated the French may already be removing citizens by ferry to Cyprus, or, at least, are planning to do so. Meanwhile, our government seems to be still in the planning stage.

Yet another example of Grover Norquist's goal realized: government small enough to be drowned in a bathtub? And another example of the Bush administration's inability or unwillingness to govern? And another example for all of us that if disaster strikes, as it did for the citizens of New Orleans, that we, folks, are on our own.

3. With the Chimp and the cabal in charge ....
... in times of disaster, tragedy or crisis Americans are ON THEIR OWN.

I am usually a very optimistic upbeat person; however, I don't trust this administration to be able to fight it's way out of a paper bag in times of crisis.

4. Twenty five thousand US and dual nationals
I suspect some duals are not ready to leave, they don't want to abandon their relatives. They'll get the genuine tourists (as opposed to visiting the old sod tourists) out first, followed immediately by the AU students, and so on from there.

The State Department is the one that gives the thumbs up on all NEOs, and the military has to do the executing. All the military can do is stand by to stand by....they can't do squat until State tells them to move.

5. Does anyone think we are
leaving them there in hopes that Hezbollah (sp?) will attack an American and that would be our excuse to get involved?

6. You would be hard put to spot many of them
The vast majority are people who are going home to see grandma, they spend the summer there. They are able to blend in very nicely.

Hizb'Allah is not gonna TOUCH the kids at AU. No way. They've probably got marching orders to stay as far the hell away from anything that has USA on it as possible.

7. evacuate Americans from Lebanon
The bush people need time to plan. You know how careful they
have been.
Beside if a few people die it's no big problem because there
not full
blooded Americans anyway.

12. Why doesn't Lebanon, Israel, and Syria guarantee 48 hours of safe passage
from Lebanon to foreign citizens of that state to either/or Damasacus/Antioch? Why all the drama? It's not that far from Beirut to Damasacus or to the Turkish border! Planes on from those two cities to Paris, Schipol, Frankfurt or wherever....
