purchase price, it will offset the cost of gasoline you will use. This argument was used in the 70's to justify the purchase of 5 mi/gal cheap used junkers rather than a new Honda Civic. The number of defects in that thinking are enormous.

Hey, you can get a BIG BARGAIN on used SUVs and even new ones! Oh, happy day!
Then you can leave it in the driveway because you can't afford to feed the damned thing.
I drive very little, so I actually considered a used Momvan, because when I do drive I have to haul stuff. They're too damned hard to drive, though, so I ended up with a little econobox.
It's cheaper to pay delivery charges.
