Clooney thanks Abramoff

http://www.alternet.org/blogs/peek/

After winning the Golden Globe last night for Syriana, a film involving international oil concerns, Clooney stood and made comments reminiscent of his other, better film from last year, Good Night and Good Luck: he named names.

A name rather. And he apparently gave it a spin. Unfortunately from the prudish Access Hollywood site it's difficult to tell just what he said: "Clooney also took his win as an opportunity to take a political jab at embattled ex-Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff, by poking fun at his first and part of his last name."

How exactly did Jackoff become verboten for a Hollywood publication?

Via a reader, here's what Clooney actually said (paraphrasing): "Why would parents name a kid Jack when the last part of his name is 'off'?"

Either way, the Oscars ought to send Clooney a check now for these shenanigans as I may break my 6,000 year ban on the interminable boredom that is the Academy Awards to watch for the possibility that Clooney may win something and make an illicit comment. And Jon Stewart hosting doesn't hurt either... (Access Hollywood)

2. As soon as Clooney started talking, I started laughing.
That was outrageously funny! Even A. Brody could be heard away from the mike saying now that was funny -

3. Even my very conservative father
called me this morning and was laughing about that. Clooney did it well. He didn't make it totally political, and he seemed as though he was totally happily joking while on stage. It went over as a joke, not as preaching, and I think it was well received by liberals and conservatives alike.
