Where's Condi? Where are our diplomats?
So far in all this madness I haven't heard a single word from ANY of the people we pay to smooth things out. We all know the shrub can't keep a thought in his head long enough to draw two full breaths, but isn't the Secretary Of State supposed to be our nation's leading diplomat?

Where are our leaders? Why are all the congressional members silent? Why is there no public voice of reason ANYWHERE?

This is madness- to have every single leader in our entire once-great country stick their fists down their own throats and bury their heads in the sand while World War Three starts is an obscenity of more-than-epic proportions. Hell- Nero ain't even fiddling this time- he's sound asleep and dreaming of pigs!

This world is in serious immediate peril, and our nation has its collective head up its ass.

Our world is SO screwed.

This really happened.

Watch how Bush masterfully rose to the occasion of the middle east crisis, and once against demonstrated the leadership that causes him to be so deeply loved not only at home, but all around the world.

All I could think of was how the Soviets used to feel whenever Yelstin would get drunk and make an ass of himself. I felt a little bit better. Other people know what it's like having an idiot as their leader. Then, sadly, I remembered Boris would sober up.

35. Reminds me of something WC Fields said
Someone shouted at him -- "You're DRUNK!" Fields replied, "You're crazy. When I wake up tomorrow, I won't be drunk, but when you wake up, you'll still be crazy."

Thanks for reminding me of Yeltsin's Absolut bar room buffoonary. It makes me feel better. Like the song says, "You'll never walk alone...."

Just imagine how embarassed Ugandans were when Idi Amin ordered members of his cabinet to wrestle. No, we're not the only nation that has been run by a wacko.

54. That's the quote I think of whenever I see the pResident talking
He'll still be crazy tomorrow.

I equate Bush more with Nero - while the world burns around them (with Bush it is burning from the climate crisis and warfare) they could care less.

Nero's whereabouts when Rome burned are still open to speculation but thanks to the internet we all have a good idea where Bush is while the world is in upheaveal. So when know that Bush ate cake rather than come to the aid of Katrina victims and we know he was busy thinking about a pig while the Middle East blows itself up. :banghead:

I don't get the impression that what's happening is viewed as a negative by the Bush Regime.

Now, if public opinion demands a word or two...they'll cough up a token response...but I just don't think the Bush Regime sees all this as a bad thing.

19. Condi is George's ventriloquist's dummy
She does not have an independent purpose. She is merely an effective means of expressing Chimperial policies. All that education, and all she has managed to achieve is being the tool of ruthless rich men.

The only sane voice I have heard in our government is Chuck Hagel (R-Nebraska). He's calling for immediate dispatch of our best and most highly experienced diplomat to defuse the situation. Yes, I know that is the fucking OBVIOUS thing to do, and that it is pathetic that Hagel must be praised for articulating the OBVIOUS -- but these are mad times.

No word from Dem leaders -- except to support Israel's action. There's no difference between the parties when it comes to war. No one has the guts to consider the complexities of the situation -- to them, it's just politics.

Just watch, once again, Lieberman will kiss George, and Harry Reid will give George a warm hug, and both parties will join hands as they send American boys and girls into Armageddon.

21. We've sent two State Department representatives over to the Middle East,
both of whom are the living embodiment of "The Ugly American".

The first one is Elliot Abrams - yep, the Elliot Abrams that was one of the Iran-Contra conspirators. Former Assistant Secretary of State for Inter-American Affairs during the Reagan Administration. It goes without saying but, his record in Central American matters was abysmal.

Here's an excellent profile of Abrams: http://rightweb.irc-online.org/profile/969

Secondly, there's David Welch, a prick if there ever was one. He and Karl Rove have one thing in common: They both should've been on a psychiatrist's couch a long time ago. Welch has major issues (and the only other person who has more issues than him is his obnoxious wife, believe me). Left no ass unkissed in his quest to get where he's at (which is currently sharing an office with Mary Cheney; he's Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs). He plays both Republicans and Democrats when it serves his purpose.

Welch is a Foreign Service brat. Graduated from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. Here's his official State Department bio: http://www.state.gov/r/pa/ei/biog/43834.htm

Hope this answers your question, Prisoner.

23. The next wave they will send over:
An obvious choice is Daniel Pipes -- just imagine what he could achieve there with his remarkable insight. Maybe smirky will pull Richard Perle out of AEI and send him over. Men of faith can be of assistance: maybe Franklin Graham -- he has much to say on the subject of Islam, and Jerry Falwell. Literary figures like Charles Krauthammer and Ann Coulter could be invaluable.

And I know we are all grateful that John Bolton is representing the US in the UN. His temperate words will soon soothe the strife, like the calming winds of Halcyon.

26. ROFL!
I heard somebody say on CNN last night that we should send Jim Baker over to the Middle East. An extremely poor choice, to be sure. Baker's no diplomat, he was lousy as SecState, and he's a Bush family crony (who is just about the LAST person we should send over there). He ran the State Department into the ground. People at State were getting warning phone calls ("You need to watch out for this guy") from friends over at the Department of the Treasury before Baker came on board!

This could've been a major foreign policy coup for the current Administration. If the incoming Bush diplomatic team had picked up the ball five years ago from the Clinton Administration, put a Middle East Envoy in place and resumed negotiations, this situation probably wouldn't have developed. We've have secured a cease-fire agreement between Israel and its neighbors, and been well on our way to signing peace accords.

But, in true Bush neocon form, they did NONE of that. So, now we're faced with the prospect of the entire Middle East getting blown to kingdom come.

This is the biggest bunch of screw-ups I've ever seen. They've failed at EVERYTHING, and it's time for them to get out, sooner rather than later.

33. What James Baker could do to solve the crisis:
He could play a vital role: He can claim that his recount of the Palestinian election shows that Hamas did not win.

He can also claim a defect on the voting ballots in the Lebanese election: the people who voted for Hezbollah really meant to vote for "Arabs-For-Likud."

Get him over there!!!

48. Ah, come on, now. Andy Williams isn't THAT bad.
There are a lot of other singers she could have taken them to hear who would be much worse.

I guess it's ok to not like a given singer, especially one past his prime, but I wouldn't list Andy as torturous. A bit bland for my tastes, maybe, but hardly torturous.

Now Cher. That's another story. Condi could have dragged them into a Cher concert, and admittedly, you're getting very close to the 'torture' column there. No argument from me on that one.

Now, it's even worse than you thought my friend Prisoner_Number_Six.

Seen "An Inconvenient Truth Yet?" Of course you have. Note those transition sequences with Gore alone in his car on the internet or Gore walking through airports alone. That's a key point - he is "alone" as a major world leader in devoting the attention to the likely end of our species if we continue to ignore global climate change and the attendant consequences.

Imagine how far you have to have your head up your ass as a major world leader to avoid this?

We are in very bad shape. I totally agree.
