Israeli forces move back into northern Gaza Strip

GAZA (Reuters) - Israeli forces clashed with militants in Gaza on Sunday as tanks moved back into the north of the Strip on an offensive that has continued even as fighting with Lebanese Hizbollah guerillas opened a second front.

The Gaza offensive, aimed at recovering a captured soldier and stopping armed groups from firing makeshift rockets, has piled pressure on the Palestinian government led by Hamas, which demands a prisoner swap for the Israeli corporal.

Israeli tanks and armored personnel carriers, backed by helicopters with machine guns sending down bursts of fire, moved into farmland near Beit Hanoun, an area often used by militants for launching rockets.

Small groups of militants opened fire at the Israeli forces, but there was no report of casualties.

I must be getting old -- I just can't keep up with all the battles going on in the world.

I am SO glad I don't have children -- either as cannon fodder for the war -- or to worry about them paying off the bills being rung up today -- every time a bomb drops it is costing us taxpayers money.

We pay for the bomb -- and then we will pay for the clean up and rehabilitation of the area bombed -- or perhaps that will be just left -- so that the next bomb can be dropped in the old hole.

Hey -- re-cycling bomb holes -- has Halliburton though of that yet? locate all the bomb holes and then make bombs that only bomb the existing bomb holes. And then make bombs that can be recycled -- that way bomb holes can be re-bombed over and over again with recycled bombs.

But they don't stay.

They have a goal, a reasonable one, but with no reasonable way to achieve it.

That only leaves unreasonable ones. The more likely to succeed, the more likely it's so unreasonable as to be rejected by Israel. The good guys, Hamas, embrace those methods.

Same problem with Lebanon.
