Why the rapture hasn't happened yet
God looked down upon the Earth, saw the 'christian' Right, and said "Ain't no way I'm bringing THOSE people up here!"

3. LOL das a fact!
The other day, I told a fundy the Rapture had already occurred. The chaos which was foretold is upon us even now. She is still here, so what does that say about her?

I'm missing something somewhere, probably because I don't freak out about end-times crap.

15. According to the Mayan calendar...

...the world is supposed to end sometime in 2012. Let me do a little digging and I'll give you the exact date.

ed. December 21st seems to be the day, although I also saw a reference to May of that year.

16. Either Dec 21 or Dec 22 is when the Mayan calendar
supposedly comes to an abrupt stop. There are tons of theories about what will happen-too many to list here. The highlights include alien invasions, a great war pitting those who are spiritual vs those who are materialists, nuclear blasts, animals or machines ganging up on humans, etc.

The date has even been featured on shows like Futurama, The X Files and Doctor Who. (Those are the ones that I remember off the top of my head.) Each had their own theories or digs at the date.

17. revalations and space science
The tribulations read like a celestial event, two fragmented comets cross paths near earth in 2012, they entangle, gravational forces sling some fragments into the earth, the skies turn red, volcanoes and earthquakes, a form of nuclear winter ensues etc... no one knows the exact date due to errors in the calculations. Although according to that story we were supposed to be hit this year by some fragments of one of the comets described.

20. I think I saw one on "Rapture Ready" when studying mental
illness the other night. I'm "series." I will look again.

I guess I was wrong, they have "Sermon" and "Prayer" ringtones, but the rapture is supposed to have some big fucking trumpet or something. I hope they can get Miles Davis.

When they do, it will be the "rapture." Then, the rest of us will sigh in relief. :)

"bring those people up here"? Maybe he thought (in the words of jimi hendrix) "those people so uptight, they sure know how to make a mess"!

10. lol...
Regarding end-times theology, my church affiliation is amillennialist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amillennialism). Makes a lot more sense and avoids pointless speculation about end-times with which so many Christians want to waste their time...

21. I don't see anywhere in the Bible where there is a rapture in the
Edited on Sat Jul-15-06 08:53 PM by Cleita
way the wacko religous right describes it. The Bible says we will rise from the dead on the last days. The promise is that once the earth has it's last burp of humanity and that humanity is dead and buried, then JC is going to come down to earth and resurrect all of us like he was resurrected. The righteous will join their souls that are already in Heaven and the bodies of the damned will go to Hell. Purgatory and Limbo will be no more, however, didn't the Catholic Church say there is no Limbo recently? It's convenient how a few hundred cardinals can rearrange the afterlife according to their politics, isn't it?

But first we have to DIE!. Nobody is going to get lifted into heaven whole body and all the while the rest of us go on with our earthly life as usual. It just isn't in the Bible that way. Also, the signs of the last days of earth aren't cut into any time frame. It basically says that the end is going to happen AFTER certain events occur, like the creation of the state of Israel and the other prophesies. This means that they can occur at any time even over millenium and only when all those things have happened then you might start looking around for that giant asteroid or other disaster that might wipe us out. It's really all very vague and for a group of religious leaders to mislead their congregations like this is really criminal IMHO.
