Zogby poll: 52% think Bush s/be impeached vs. 43% who don't
From an e-mail I received from ImpeachBush.org:

1) The People's Impeachment Lobby is a huge success. Members of Congress received more than 70,000 letters urging impeachment.

2) A new Zogby poll will be released tomorrow showing that by a 52% to 43% margin, Americans believe that Congress should consider impeaching George W. Bush if he wiretapped the people of this country without court approval (and everyone knows and Bush has admitted that he ordered just such huge secret spying operation.) The poll, with a plus or minus margin of error of 2.9%, shows that 66% of Democrats, 59% of independents, and 23% of Republicans support impeachment for wiretapping. Majorities favored impeachment across the country: the East (54%), South (53%), and West (52%), Central states (50%). The significance of this poll can be seen by way of comparison with public attitudes in the months before the impeachment of Clinton. In August and September 1998, sixteen major polls found that only 36% supported hearings to impeach Clinton.

3) Even Republican Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman, Arlen Specter, who will be convening hearings next month on Bush’s authorization of secret electronic surveillance of Americans, said that if lawmakers find Bush violated the law regarding wiretapping (remember Richard Nixon here), then “impeachment is a remedy. After impeachment you could have a criminal prosecution."

4) There are now eight members of Congress including John Conyers, the ranking minority member of the House Judiciary Committee, who have put their name to a bill calling for a special committee to investigate impeachable crimes by the Bush Administration.

I saw last night Nancy Pelosi doing a town hall meeting from this past Saturday and someone asked her about impeachment and she said she thought they should get rid of Bush by voting and not impeachment. If any of you have her as your rep please send this to her! We need to try to get all democrats on board with impeachment. If Arlen Specter can say the "i" word than surely democrats can.

11. Yeah . . . three more years of Schimpanski is about 8 years too long . . .
Expecially since we'll "get rid of him" without voting anyway. (I hope!)

But the total rejection of his administration's arrogance, incompetence, and criminality is crucial to 1) finding our way out of the wreckage of his "war on terror" and reaching accommodation with the rest of the world on the proper policing of terrorism and 2) repairing the damage to environmental, health care, commerce, legal, and tax (just to name 5!) policies that are the legacy of his disastrous time in the White House.

3. 23% of Republicans support impeachment for wiretapping
That's pretty significant. Not as high as I'd like to see...but I'd bet that the number would climb if an investigation really showed wrongdoing on the part of * - of course, there are those that would still support him if he ate babies on live TV...but not the majority.

Passion for Impeachment is Major Unreported Story

The strong support for impeachment found in this poll is especially surprising because the views of impeachment supporters are entirely absent from the broadcast and print media, and can only be found on the Internet and in street protests. The lack of coverage of impeachment support is due in part to the fact that not a single Democrat in Congress has called for impeachment, despite considerable grassroots activism by groups like Democrats.com (http://democrats.com/impeach).

The passion of impeachment supporters is directly responsible for the new poll commissioned by After Downing Street. After the Zogby poll in June, activists led by Democrats.com urged all of the major polling organizations to include an impeachment question in their upcoming polls. But none of the polling organizations were willing to do so for free, so on September 30, AfterDowningStreet.org posted a request for donations to fund paid polls (http://afterdowningstreet.org/polling). People responded with small donations (on average $27) which quickly added up to over $10,000. After Downing Street has spent a portion of that money on the Ipsos Poll and the new Zogby Poll.

People can prepare indictments against bush and congress

5. Unfortunately, unless we get a few Repubs to croos over, it won't happen.
We all need to start pressuring our congressmen (Dems and Repubs) to impeach him. I even send e-mail to the Repubs from my state.
