What I mean is are the Democrats going to be saying something like "Well we don't want to win elections because it sounds too Republican." As sarcastic as that sounds weirder things have happened.

1. I believe the 06 midterms will accelerate the need for change inside

the GOP.

On the religious right, it's squeezed by the nutcase fundies, who are rabid, monolithic theocrats who want it all and want it all their way. They want Congress, they want the White House, and they ESPECIALLY want the Court. All courts, all schools, all town councils, and so forth. They demand it all. Hungry predator cats gnawing at the Constitution's carcass.

On the corporate right, it's squeezed by rabid right-wing corporate media and by corporations generally, and by oil-interest BushCo corporations particularly. This hasn't worked out very well in some instances -- just ask Jeff Skilling and KennyBoy.

Within its own elected officials, it has just barely withstood body blows from scandals like Tom DeLay, Randy Cunningham, Jack Abramoff, Scooter Libby, the sulferous little demon Ralph Reed, and a dozen or more others, and the Plame suit just got filed day before yesterday.

In Congress, they've already lost DeLay in the House, and may lose the ENTIRE House to the Democrats, or at least lose significant numbers of seats, and in the Senate, THE CAT BUTCHER is stepping down, Santorum is on the ropes, leaving the loathsome Mitch McConnell as lone survivor of their current leadership in the Senate.

They're going to have to make some kind of change in their own self-definition, or they're going to drown in their own bile and bullshit.

Not that that wouldn't be fun to watch.

Go, Democrats.

4. That's a smart position, because we don't want to count any
chickens before they hatch.

Still, I'd rather be a Democratic pollster right now than a Republican pollster. It would be a more pleasant job on meeting days when you tell the county operatives that things are trending bluer than they are redder.

Plus, we have a real good shot at taking out some heavy-duty jerks: Rick Santorum in Pennsylvania, Conrad Burns in Montana... and with some luck, we can put Phil Angelides in the Governor's chair and bid bye-bye to Arnold.

I agree that we should feel edgy, but there's a lot of good opportunity and good energy out there for Democrats.

3. It will be unless the vote fraud issue is resolved.

5. Then they better get to it. But I'm not talking about voter fraud. Is the
Democratic Party so weak, so lacking a backbone that winning is going to be considered to aggressive or Republican?

8. I gotcha. It's like them taking down the "coffin" ad...what a bunch of
gutless wonders.
I agree: do they really WANT to win? Are they playing some stupid game? Are they waiting until the rePiglicans have destroyed our country to such a degree that no thinking person would ever vote for one again, by which time it will be too damn late???

6. I've wondered that myself
CG. It's almost like a suicide wish with them. Do they not want to win, they certainly aren't playing to win.

7. Good point. There is a certain logic in waiting for a complete
collapse of the Republic and gaining complete power, instead of getting down in the dirt and fighting these fascist animals to pick up a few new seats here and there....it's very tempting to wait for a thunderous outcry from the people as opposed to begging them to "pick me....pick me !" over the thug in power....let them max out the credits cards filling up the car first....
