question about AP's report on whether Ken Lay is really dead:
here's the story, if you missed it:
http://apnews.excite.com/article/20060715/D8ISBF2G0.html

But the paragraph that caught my attention was this:

"Lay's lawyer, Michael Ramsey, irritably dismissed all the Web talk after Lay's memorial service in Houston on Wednesday:

"When I read the garbage that's on the Internet, I'm reminded of the parable of the jackass kicking the dead lion. I think that's enough said."

My question is: Have you ever heard a parable about a jackass and a lion? New to me. I found one online, but it surely isn't the one Ramsey had in mind. It's about a fox eating the jackasses heart because he showed bravery in trying to collect boatfare from the king (a lion).

Anyway, tell me the one about the jackass and the lion that fits......

16. tsk tsk. Not an answer.
Why do you think it so unreasonable?
Is the idea just too fantastic?
I agree the idea is pretty wild, but,
I am now involved in something close to
World War Three in Iraq and it is all based on lies.

Better we question than not.

Better we be given the simple easy to provide evidence
than the condescending pat on the head.

3. I have heard of that before...not as a parable, though. Here's a link.

4. no, not my question:
He's not talking about the Dem mascot.... but a parable. Have you ever heard a parable about a jackass and a lion? Like the tortoise and the hare or whatever.

9. Yes, he is. He's saying that Dems are the ones not letting Lay RIP.
The jackass, or donkey, represented the Copperhead Press (Democrat sentiment in 1870) while the lion impersonated Edwin M. Stanton, who had died December 24th, but whose memory was being assailed even as he lay in his coffin.

Same link as I posted above. Did you not read it?

5. Allusion to a Thomas Nast cartoon
"...Nast first used the donkey as a symbol for the Democratic Party in "A Live Jackass Kicking a Dead Lion" published January 15, 1870, in Harper's Weekly to comment on Northern Democrats (nicknamed Copperheads) dealings with Edwin M. Stanton, Lincoln's Secretary of War."

I got that by googling "jackass kicking the dead lion".

15. you're both right.... I googled:
"jackass lion parable" but your google was better. Though there are parables about j's and l's -- just totally unrelated.

14. Saw a video of an ass kicking a lion to death
And kicking a bit more to make sure the lion was dead.

Only a dumb ass would make the assumption the lion was dead. ;)
