Doc Suspected in NY Building Collapse Dies

NEW YORK Jul 16, 2006 (AP)— The doctor suspected of blowing up his town house
rather than allowing his ex-wife to benefit from its sale has died, nearly a week
after suffering critical injuries in the blast, a hospital spokeswoman said Sunday.

Dr. Nicholas Bartha, 66, died late Saturday, said Mary Halston, an administrator
at New York Presbyterian Hospital.

Police had been unable to speak to Bartha after the July 10 explosion because of his
condition, but authorities have said they were investigating whether he might have
caused it rather than sell the town house as part of a divorce judgment favoring his
ex-wife.

2. That's Kind Of Sad
When I was about twelve this guy about two blocks from me started a gas fire because his wife left him for another man. It was the "biggest" thing to happen in my neighborhood. To this day I still remember one of the neighbors standing and watching and saying "if he wanted to kill himself why did he have to try to take the rest of the neighborhood with him." That lot was empty for nearly a decade.

6. This one won't be empty long.
It is very sad that it ended this way but he got his wish; to die in the house. The ex-wife, who seems to have been through a lot, will get the sale rights to the land and live very comfortably on the proceeds.

8. We moved to the Upper East Side when I was fifteen...
and, believe it or not, there was a block long, empty, overgrown lot across the street from my building that stayed empty for many years. Once Trump made it fashionable to build on Third Avenue, it quickly aquired a huge condo building. This is 6 blocks from that townhouse.

10. I Grew Up In Forest Hills But Moved To Florida When I Was 12
My aunt does live on the Upper East Side.

She bought a condo there in the early 70's.

It must be worth a mint.

3. There was no way he was going
to survive. He was overweight, fell three stories and had serious burns.
The family values of Bush supporters appear to be the opposite of their talking points. Another one killed his son and committed suicide.

9. Must disagree. It only takes one.
No matter how good a wife or husband is, the other spouse can destroy a marriage quite well with their own selfishness.

14. There is some truth to that
but both parties bring their baggage to a marriage and we all have baggage.

15. Sometimes it takes only one
You can't control another person's drinking or drug use. You can make it worse, but you can't make them stop.

13. Well, no, but now the ex-wife owns the lot, which she can sell for
millions.

16. No insurance since this was a "willful act", insurance will not pay off...
This guy was out to harm his ex in any way he could.
