how are people surviving the high temps on the mainland?

I'm in Key West and wonder how everyone is dealing with the high temps. \

(our temps are the same as usual but the humidity is higher as the water temps raise)

I can't imagine dealing with over 100 degrees

19. Yea, I have a swamp cooler too.. And it was nearly ineffective yesterday
Just got everything done before 11:00am so I can strip down to my skivvies and wait it out inside.

I guess I shouldn't complain because the Iraqis have to endure 115 degrees+ with no electricity, on top of the fear of being raped and/or killed by American soldiers.

43. welcome to the Golden State
or why when people decry the high prices here and lots of other problems, I look at them like they are loopy. I fail to understand why anyone would live where the humidity is over 50%. But then I am a native and the family has been here since 1908.

Clear Lake, Today: High 102 F, low 65, humidity: 20%

7. Well that's just what I am dealing with and I HATE it!
I'm in Kansas City.
High Temp today is supposed to be 99.
Monday? 101
Tuesday? 100

And people can't understand why I live for fall and winter.

My A/C has been running 24/7.
Can't wait to see my electric bill.

I do not understand how anyone could live here without A/C in July and August.
September is nothing to write home about neither.

That's why anytime I see one of those "donate" an A/C unit for a senior citizen programs I make a donation.

No one should have to endure heat like this without A/C.

44. That's a great idea.

I live in a rental- no insulation and no A/C.
Yesterday it hit 95 degrees- 1 mile from the Pacific Ocean.

I run around opening and closing windows/blinds to shut out
hot air and let in cool air on the shady side.

Also, frozen washcloths, slightly thawed with water are great
for spot cooling.

I've got 6 in the freezer now.

All the fans, all the time- 16 hours a day/night.

20. I lived in South Florida most of my life
and didn't realize that other states did not have the humidity like Florida does. I live in North Georgia now and people are complaining about the humidity. I tell them if they want to experience some real high humidity to do down to South Florida.

The temperature is not too bad right now. I'm just north of Atlanta and my outside thermometer is reading 82 degrees and it is cloudly outside.

But in summer I go from my air-conditioned house to my air-conditioned car to my air-conditioned office. I avoid the outside heat at all costs except when I walk my dog, which can be brutal in the late-afternoon heat.

lightening last night, new fires today & nobody to help - spread too thin. I brought the cay kennel box outta the basement, put water & kibble in the car in case we get fire near town & have to bug out.

Garden early in the day, then hole up inside with lots of fluid, some Morton light salt mixed with water & OJ. Watch the travel channel and ride the stationery bike with a big fan aimed at my back.

30. On Saturday in St Paul it was officially 99 degrees with.......
.......45% humidity but my outside thermometer registered 103 degrees yesterday afternoon.

Today the humidity is back up around 75% with 85 degree temperatures after a few showers earlier today that simply sent the humidity levels skyrocketing. The temperature is down at least.

Anyone hear about the 117 degree temperature in S Dakota yesterday?? Anyone not convinced that global warming is real and it's here NOW?????

You can jump in the shower or tub as many times as you like. Or run a hose over yourself. There are many ways to beat the heat.

By the time we got done our show, I felt as if I'd been beaten with 2x4s for three hours.

And it wasn't even that hot out here yesterday (low 80s). Today, it's stifling out there.

I'm letting everything go today and staying in the A/C and drinking water and bloggin/posting here. I'll unload the equipment truck around sundown.
