Congressional Resolution Supporting Israel? |
|
I just heard on one of the cable 'news' channels that Congressional Republicans are planning to introduce as soon as next week a resolution fully supporting Israel's actions in Lebanon and the Gaza.
I am so sick of war ... I think the nation is becoming very war weary, too ...
... but I have a sinking feeling that a very large majority of Congressional Democrats would vote in favor of such a resolution.
Won't someone with a forum or platform please take a stand for peace and sanity?
Are we going to get stuck again with Bush/Cheney/Rove trumpeting "bipartisan" support for more war and aggressive foreign policy?

Give me a break. This Congress is a joke, but not ha-ha funny.
They'll pontificate for the cameras about allegiance to our allies and then add a secret rider cutting some social program. :eyes:

3. God, I am so sick of this. |

I suppose one war-mongering nation has to support another. This is all so wrong.

over and over and over again while patting themselves on the back for being "tough on terrorism" and try to make the justification for Iraqnam look more palatable.

2. I hope congressional democrats vote in favor |
|
I am not pro-war by any stretch of the imagination and have been completely against the war in Iraq. However, I support Israels stance at this point in time and that is also the platform of the democratic party.

I would point out the fallacy of your analogy, but I get the feeling that you already know your analogy is crap.

18. I have serious issues with Israel's recent actions |
|
And I truly find collective punishment to be abominable and immoral. At the same time, I can't really say what Israel should do. Hezbollah have built their infrastructure in and around Lebanese civilians, and there's no other way for Israel to hit them, really. All I know is that the last couple of days I wake up and I thank God (despite being an athiest) that I don't live anywhere near there.
I just wish the U.N would get off its ass and do something (that said, our government would probably veto any U.N peacekeeping resolution) about it.

7. This is political pandering. |
|
The GOP doesn't give a shit about American Jews, except that we are mostly Democrats and vote en masse against Republicans. This "resolution" is a way of showing Jews who supports Israel and who doesn't and will be used in the election.
Shameless political pandering.

17. Thank you for telling me what I will defend. Rather presumptuous of you |
|
And, I would defend a Palestinian state, if the PA can ensure that they want to coexist and not follow the primary objective of Hamas: "The destruction of Israel."
Now, you are on ignore because you made an inference about me with a snide and total disregard of logic.

19. Okay. What about the Palestinians? |
|
Do the Palestinians have a right to defend themselves?
This is probably Feingold's Achille's Heel politically ... it could put him in the same camp as Lieberman -- this uncritical support for whatever Israel ever does. Why can't these politicians in this country ever seek balance and fairness on this issue; it's always unwavering support for Israel and let hundreds of Palestinans or Lebanese get killed.
This trouble and violence in the Middle East will never end, in my opinion, until the U.S begins to be genuinely neutral between the Israelis and the Palestinians. As long as the United States always sides with Israel, no matter what kind of "collateral damage" and collective punishments and land grabs they commit, then Israeli politicians will never have any incentive to compromise.
The solution probably is simple, though the implementation difficult. If Israel would abide by UN resolutions 242 and 338 and return to the pre-1967 borders, then most Arab nations would recognize Israel. Enough time and events have passed that I think even Syria and Saudia Arabia and Iran would probably feel pressured to accept Israel under those circumstances.
But the U.S, simply will not cut foreign aid to Israel to pressure them to agree to a peaceful solution. And that is why peace just doesn't come to the Middle East.

8. How to score political points by doing nothing. |

Look constipated, give speech full of meaningless platitudes, and watch the polls.
Of course the Dems will follow suit. But, with more platitudes about "restraint" and "seeking a solution".
