Time to resurrect an old idea....
Get out your Avery mailing labels and make a page or two that say:

Thanks George

and everytime you buy gas stick one on the "select grade" button on the pump!

5. As much as I dislike Bush, he didn't force us to become dependent
on a finite resource.

Gas prices are going to keep going up, no matter who is in the White House. Buy a bike.

16. You're saying Bush forced us to become even more dependent on oil?
I mean, the guy hasn't helped the situation.. he's made it worse. But I haven't seen anyone buying Hummers and Escalades with guns pointed at their heads.

12. He is almost singlehandedly responsible for the current PRICE
Of course prices will rise with a dwindling supply.

But Dubya and crew are doing their damndest to make sure it goes to those higher prices as soon as possible.

Remember, Iraq was all about not bringing more oil supply, but making sure it stayed in the ground until it was needed.

Ergo, the permanent bases in Iraq.

17. Then it will be less painful when it really starts to run out, won't it?

I agree with Tom Friedman. If gas were to hit $5 a gallon, it would force people to understand some of the long term social, environmental, and planetary costs the shit incurs. The sooner we start figuring out how to solve that problem, the better.

18. I wonder how many gallons/mile Junior consumes when he travels.
I wonder how much the U.S. military burns up every day. Iraq has never yet gotten it's production up to pre-invasion levels. Have the Louisiana efineries come back to full capacity? Have the Gulf platforms been repaired? How far is Exxon/Mobil from bankruptcy? We still pump nearly half our oil domestically ... and the costs have not risen anywhere near the rate per barrel on the open market.
