12. What, you didn't think anything is free in the Land of the Free, did you?
Only those Americans who have money are worth saving. I'm sure the Navy takes MasterCard, though, so people hopefully won't have to pry out their own gold teeth to pay for passage.

I've accepted the horrible reality that we have no leadership, that the Current Occupant has given his "best" and it just ain't good enough.

Maybe some volunteer efforts to get the evacuation going?

That's painfully clear, wherever americans are, in a devastated American city, town, or whatever, In a foreegn country when all hell breaks lose. If you don't belong to the gold circle, your on your own, learn it live it.

Unless anyone can think of a damn good reason why our fellow citizens have to wait until Wednesday, for crying out loud, then I would say you have suggested a fairly decent hypothesis.

May it never be proved. :(

32. Not a stupid question...it's actually quite important
I heard earlier today on the news that many of the 25,000 Americans there are actually Lebanese-Americans who hold dual citizenship.

Now I know that some are probably Christians, but how many are Muslim? Any reason Bush wouldn't want them re-entering the United States? He'll let them all be slaughtered first. Their seeming incompetence always shields an evil motive.

37. eh, Lebanon is barely a "muslim" nation
it's about 55% muslim (slightly more shi'a than sunni), 40% christian, 5% druze. *by and large* the Lebanese that emigrated to America were christian. I'm not saying there are 0 muslim Lebanese-Americans, but they're certainly not a big part of the group.

As an answer to OP's question, Americans were in Lebanon because we had just hailed Lebanon as an example of Democracy working in the middle east, and Beiruit is the Paris of the Mediterranean.

43. I read this as a "false flag" ....
on Rense.com this morning. It suggested that * would sacrifice the American citizens in Lebanon and enter the "war". A scenario might be, American helicopter evacuating Americans from Lebanon is downed and all aboard killed. Not so far fetched as I think of Katrina victims left, for days, to their own devices for survival. Other countries began evacuating their citizens last Thursday!

I guess I'm just ignorant for not realizing there could be so many Lebanese-Americans. Thanks.

34. 25 thousand people to evacuate and they couldn't even handle
evacuations in **our own country** before/after a hurricane. Of course they won't start until Wednesday. The Repug leadership is incompetant in everything except making themselves wealthy through theft and con-artistry.

**And** the Repug leadership has been blocking all calls for a ceasefire so they are **actively** putting American civilians in danger.
