Chief Justice Roberts lied to Sen. Wyden about Oregon's suicide law
From August 10, 2005:

Wyden confident Roberts would shield suicide law

The Oregon senator, fearing a challenge to doctor-assisted suicide, meets with the Supreme Court nominee

WASHINGTON -- Supreme Court nominee John Roberts declared that, in cases dealing with end-of-life care, he would "start with the supposition that one has the right to be left alone," Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., said after the two met for an hour Tuesday.

Wyden said Roberts' comments on personal liberties and other issues of constitutional law left him hopeful that, if confirmed by the full Senate, Roberts would rule to protect Oregon's law allowing physician-assisted suicide.

"I think that's what the people of Oregon have said, that this is not something where government should be intruding," Wyden said shortly after the meeting.

Roberts said the basic genius of the federal system is that it affords states the ability to approach problems in a way that is best suited to their different needs; imposing uniformity across the nation would stifle the intent of the founding fathers, Wyden said.

21. He is not a Neo-con, he is a Federalist
and that is even worse....He belongs to the Federalist Society, an organization of right-wing lawyers, who believe that there exist a ruling class....and that the masses should learn their places.

When you hear Federalist, think royalty and aristocracy.

3. Roberts is a Bush appointee, as such, he must be an unethical
lying sleaze. It seems to be the only type of people they employ.

I'm not sure why anyone thought Roberts would be any different.

4. Thom Hartmann mentioned this earlier in his show today.
He said he had a conversation with Wyden and Wyden felt, after talking with Roberts, that Roberts would uphold the Oregon law.

I'll bet Wyden's pissed.

7. Every Democratic senator needs to read this
before they vote on Scalito. Roberts' bland assurances and non-responses meant absolutely nothing in terms of indications as to how he would rule. Scalito is infinitely worse and they all know it. If they don't act and this vermin is seated on the court there is going to be a hellacious backlash against senators of both parties once the extent of his duplicity becomes apparent. Hopefully that will take place before allour rights have been ruled away.

.... Ireland.

The man sitting on the left is Roberts. And suddenly when he was in his mid to late
40s he gets married and gets some adopted kids so as to provide cover for him
and the evil bastards that want him in power so as to help in their take over of America.

That man smells of deceit and double dealing. And he could be chief justice for 30 years?

BTW .... nothing wrong with being gay too ...... the problem is being gay and working
for bush & company.

12. doubt it.
Being a straight men I can not speak for gays but to me there seems to be a
strange cult of gay bush supporters and helpers. This i don't get.

To turn your back on your own kind and to work for an admin. and party
that has inculcated anti gay rights into it's platform is stunning. Why not
Jews for Hitler?

Gannon was spending the night at the White House, Ken Mehlman head of the RNC
is gay, 2 on air fox broadcasters are gay, Abromoff was providing male prostitutes
for Congressional members and staff, and so on. When does the lies stop?

And now Roberts less then 3 months on the bench turns a 180 from his testimony?

15. GOD this is exactly why I got so pissed at Wyden!!!
For voting for Roberts. For voting for Condi. Living in dumb fuck denial. Can't these so called smart savy political types see liars and thieves, why in hell do they believe them??????? Can't they see if everything the guy has ever done or stood for is the opposite of what he's telling you right now-just to get the damn job-that he's a liar?? WTF? They must just be lying to themselves. Which is exactly my point about the Dems-if they aren't dumb then they MUST be in denial. Ugh. Don't they hate being had? Must just be me-from lower class roots-I HATE being taken for a fool and can smell a liar a hundred feet off. We need some leaders with common sense that aren't afraid to use it.

23. He lost me when he voted for the bankruptcy bill
I was an avid supporter until then.

It's not like I'll vote Republican, but I really don't like being sold out. I've heard Wyden say over and over that he wants more progressive members of Congress, but then he votes for this garbage.

He'll vote for Alito, too.

I'm sick of "politics for sale."

The system is broken.

25. Wyden voted for the bush medicare disaster, too.
He's a glutton for punishment, but it's the citizens that are receiving the brutal end of the stick. I called his office and raised holy hell (politely) and told his staff that Wyden should never ever trust anything on the bush agenda, that we would get burned.

Sure enough, bush lied about the numbers, kept them deliberately hidden and now just look at the frickin' disaster in the pharmacy lines and the people who are tearing their hair out because they can't afford the meds that the prior system had available for them without too much hassle.

Wyden is a schmuck, he has lost all his credibility with the values that Democrats stand for,
and I will not vote for him unless it is down to the thinnest, most tenable wire between him and a Repub.
