Just wondering what the feeling is around here, since it looks like she is going to run.

I would be less than honest if I said she was in my group of first-tier choices, but I'm voting Democratic in 06, 08, 10, 12, etc.

Look for me in the blue line.

it really makes me sick when people act as though we only elect Presidents. there's a ton of work to be done on the lower levels that's been neglected for years, and it's really exciting to be a part of that.

19. Nope. Voting a straight Democratic ticket, no matter what.
For those of you who STILL don't understand why, it's all about committee chair designations, AND the Supreme Court, AND a peace plan for the Middle East, AND finally doing something about global warming, fixing the economy, creating good jobs, AND restoring funding to education, Pell grants, veterans benefits, infrastructure, etc. etc. etc., i.e. everything that chimpy et al has fucked up over the last 5-1/2 years.

48. I don't think Gore is a DINO.
However, I also know that Kerry didn't and Hillary won't flip a red state (caveat: Kerry flipped a northern red state, but none in the "Heartland," which is where we NEED to flip at least two big ones or three or four smaller ones - both to WIN and to unite the country).

Therefore, I can vote for whomever I want for president because Hillary won't get within 20 points of winning in my state. My one vote won't change that.

And it's not that people here think she's a DINO - they think she's demon "librul" scum.

75. Hillary could carry Florida
She might do well in Arkansas, might not, depends on the campaign.

No one thinks Gore's a DINO now. But around here in 2001 he was bashed the way Hillary and Lieberman are now. There were posters calling him a DINO and a DLC slave, stating flatly that he had zero chance to win, to carry any southern states... everything you just said about Hillary, and much more. Same image, same reputation.

The day after Gore announced he wasn't running again, the exact same posters starting screaming that Gore was too liberal for the party, that the DLC and the DNC had chased him out of the race, and that he was the ONLY candidate who could win. His image did a complete about face simply because he dropped out of the race. He was saying the same things, but suddenly they were liberal things.

Same thing will happen with Hillary. Is happening with Hillary. And if Clark ever gets taken seriously as a candidate, same thing will happen to him.

Hillary has the biggest name, the biggest black book of donors, a track record of winning big elections. She's a woman, which immediately gives her a boost because a lot of people will vote for her for that. She was very, very popular in the south at one point--I have friends from Arkansas who still gush about her, and they are Republicans. So she can pull in the South as well as anyone else can. Maybe your guy can make a stronger showing, but that's still up in the air--no one else has a southern connection. Edwards couldn't even carry his home state. Neither could Gore.

But my point really isn't about who has the best chance of winning. It's about the smear of Hillary as a DINO or even a right winger here, and amongst other liberal sites. Someone posted a thread yesterday about how the media had twisted another speech of hers to make her seem DINO, claiming she had told Democrats they were worrying about petty issues, when it was clear from the speech that she was complaining about Republicans in the Senate. It's EXACTLY the way they twisted Gore's words to make it seem he was delusional--the Internet comment, the Love Canal comment, the Love Story comment. We all know how they lied about Gore. They are doing the same thing with Hillary now--on flag burning, on video games, on the troops in Iraq.

And Democrats are buying it. Wait until they finish Hillary off and go after Clark. I don't like Clark as a candidate, but I'll wind up defending him one of these days, too. The Republicans will smear him the way they do everyone else if he ever becomes viable, and they'll have Democrats believing it. When it hits your candidate, you'll see.

And I'll keep saying 'yes', hoping that there are enough who threaten to withdraw support so that she decides not to run. The Iraq war is that big an issue for me.

If she became the eventual candidate, however, I would probably do what millions of others would do. I'd go vote for her, making sure that I do it on an empty stomach.

If I don't find anything I like, I'll likely still hold my nose and vote. I won't be the most effective campaigner you ever saw, but I'll vote.

Even so, a Conservative friend and I joke that if it's McCain vs Hillary, we might BOTH sit this out.

The nomination is no shoo-in folks -- remember, there are still primaries for people to win, no matter what the war chest! Money does not immediately equate victory...it just helps. It really, really, really, really helps...

Do you think the Democratic Party will miss those who sit out because the party's shifts have "left them behind?" If the party is determined to nominate someone who polarizes the party as well as the nation, shouldn't the party be willing to accept the actions of those who disagree?

I won't sit out the election. I don't know that Hillary will get my vote. It depends on who else is on my ballot.

69. I'd Never Campain for here but I'd vote for her if I had no choice
and I'd have no choice if she were the nominee. But of course she won't be. It would be insanity to nominate someone who half of the nation (or maybe just a few more people than half) think is the female antichrist.

She is utterly unelectable beyond her present office.

70. Depends on the banality of her opponent
but there is a chance I would only vote in the Congressional elections.

71. can we stop assuming she'll be the nominee?
i'm sure we'll have better candidates. Let's work to get them the nomination, and not spin our wheels debating hypotheticals.

i should hope all third-party voters have learned a lesson these past 6 years. if not, well then we'll see if nader's theory about the thoughtless consumers waking up only when things get so bad they can no longer ignore them... because they surely will.

73. And right on schedule another Hillary for president run question.
KKKarl would be so proud. It isn't like that Tweety, Dead Intern and the like don't beat this horse every damn day we have to have endless threads here at DU on the subject.

I'm with redqueen - hypotheticals, debates and divisiveness is straight out of KKKarl's play book.

I do solemnly swear that this is the last damn thread I am commenting on about Hillary's run, no run, vote, won't vote, poll, no poll, yadda, yadda, yadda until it becomes a relevant question. But that's just me.

72. It won't really matter
Because she will go down in flames at the polls. And we will have only ourselves (well, maybe not all of us) to blame for allowing her to be nominated.

And if she did by some miracle win, we'd have a PNACing Dem to continue the foreign policy blunders of Bush for the next four years.

She's not my favorite candidate, but I'll certainly vote for her if she's nominated.

79. Of course not! That was the problem the last time.
Too many of "us" sat that one out, allowing them to steal the election, once again. What we need to do is to show up in such overwhelming numbers that there is no possible way for them to get away with this again. That's what we were aiming for the last time, but we blew it. I have never sat out any election, and I never will. Anytime you neglect to vote, that's one more vote for the opposition...x(

and corporate feudalism at home. I'll vote for Senator Clinton over any Republican but can't we field a better candidate?

83. no...she would not be my pick
I would vote for any Democratic candidate because no matter how bad, they will still do more for this country than any repug. By me not voting it could help the other guys and I couldn't have that on my conscious.

85. I never sit out elections...
but I will be voting for the democratic candidate of my choice -- and it won't be Hillary Clinton, even if she is the candidate. I will instead write in another Democrat. Living in a strong Democratic state thankfully enables me to make that choice.

86. For crying out loud; why would I?
There's no way in hell I'll sit out any election as long as ANY democrat is in the midst. Why give the
votes to the fascists? You might say I'm a party loyalist. Take it any way you wish to.
:puke: Republicans this day and age make me very sick....

89. She's not my idea of a winning candidate; nonetheless, I'd vote for her.
She's far too centrist, IMO.

At this point, I'd much rather see Gore, Edwards, Feingold, or Clark on the ballot.

92. The extreme left can sit out, it won't matter much
The moderate left, Democrats, and Centrists will be glad to have the seat back. Much of the Hillary hate comes from far left wingers--due to fear of the far right, and it's very sad how some of us choose to destroy our own. At first I found myself jumping on the Hate Hillary bandwagon but then I realized, Clinton is my type of Dem. She fights for liberal values from a Christian perspective--socially liberal, fiscally moderate. That's what most Americans want, IMO.
