The Christians, Jews, Muslims, & Their Shared God.
Why does the God of Abraham taunt his followers so? Why is this so called holy land so cursed by violence and hatred? Why has this God overseen so much misery without helping them?

I suggest these ancient and venerable religions get their shit together pretty quick and stop waiting for their shared god to help them. Come up with new religions or something, start all over from the bottom up, or from the top down.

Three sects, one god, and thousands of years of history involving hate and death and war. What the hell good is it?

1. because
there are just enough retarded followers to keep the violence going. I was reading for my amusement, the rapture ready web forum...they believe the end is here and where asking will children who are not yet christian go up with the rapture?....someone said well in islam the children are dressed as suicide bombers by the age of 5 and not one person disagreed.

They do not even realize the 3 religions share the same god. They have prayed for this they believe it has to happen so they can meet jesus.

3. This is a conflict that goes back before the concept of one God
as espoused by the Abrahamic religions. If one looks at ancient history, you find in the hieroglyphs in Egypt stories of war and conquest over the Middle East. If you check out the cuniform tablets, you see the same thing, as Ur, then Babylon, then Persia all ruled the area we now know as the Middle East. The Caananites who prayed to Baal and Inana and Alut fought just as hard and with just as much hate as the Jews and Muslims do today.

Perhaps what one should look at is how the concept of God and human conduct has evolved over the millenia. Some may say it hasn't--but there are groups that are working towards peace and understanding, both in Israel and the Muslim countries that surround it.

The prophets that have come to spread the message of Peace and Understanding have always said the same thing - do unto others as you would have them do unto you. The problem is that prophets die or leave, and those who come after them twist the message for their own ends. But there are those Jews, Christians, and Muslims who are working towards not only peace but towards a different God concept, one in which all see God as not different, not seperate, but one with everything. This concept is one that mystics from all spiritual traditions agree upon, and perhaps could be the basis for reconciliation between all believers. That is the first step. The second is to find a way to reprogram the violent heritage of the area, which appears to have become almost genetically imprinted on many who live in the Middle East.

4. Re-inventing God...?
I respectfully disagree that man is capable of such a feat.

7. Look to history
Starting with the Egyptian Book of the Dead and the Mayan inscriptions. Look then at the Vegas, the Spirit Songs of the Native Peoples. Check out the God concepts of classical Greece and of the Middle East, the wisdom of the Tao. God concepts are created and recreated all the time.

5. Their (perceived) God(s) are trying to get them all killed.
Or, they are all willing to blame Him(It) for the homicide they're doing on their co-religionists.

8. Nice myth, if you can swallow it.
I'd say that few of those mentioned would be happy with Abraham or his God.

When Christians and Jews believe that Moses and Jesus were Muslims and would submit to Muhammed, or I see Muslims keeping the Sabbath, I'll believe they have the same God.

Otherwise, they use the same word (in a given language), while each says, "My "God is greatest'. "
