There are few scarier words than "reform", and yet the republicans have gotten away with using this (and other terms) for too many years. I sincerely hope that whoever is running against them in the fall will step up and explain those loaded words.
Reform only means that the party in control can reform/change existing (and usually working) legislation to benefit their contributors.
Look at the things they have "reformed"..
Banking.....is everyone still enjoying their banking experiences? Bankruptcy & credit cards....... still feeling secure in your cc interest rates & rules? Energy....Loving those sky-high gas & electric rates?? and gasoline prices?? Education...Are schools better these days?? Kids liking "teach to the test"? Airlines.....Are those skies still "happy"? and what about those maintenance records? Welfare... Isn't it nice that poor people are suddenly no longer poor when their "time limit" expires? Military....Smaller/faster and exploitative of the reserves & guard..um how's THAT going? Taxes... Still have any of that $300 payday loan left? Rich folks are still getting cuts. Medicare....Are seniors loving the great and inexpensive access to "the best health care in the world".....How's that drug plan goin'? Labor laws.... No more overtime..Are people even missing that extra money these days?
Loaded words like ..reform...fix...address...restore... are just euphemisms for taking stuff away from the many, to accommodate the few (rich)..
They do it because we let them .. They tell us exactly what they plan to do, and because some people don't pay attention to the details, they keep getting away with robbing us all in broad daylight.
Until democrats get on-board with some REAL talk to REAL people, the slick snake oil salesmen of both parties will still get their way and we'll get crumbs.(if we are lucky)
Every time a democrat gets face-time on tv they need to HIT and HIT hard, the fact the people are getting a distorted view of the way things really are..Put the fault where it belongs..The leadership in congress and the white house SETS the agenda and CONTROLS the legislation.. Republicans took power with a vengeance and have run things for a long time now, and they have FAILED to represent and protect the many..They have only acted in favor of the few.
The media is primarily responsible for most of the mis-perceptions.
They tell us daily how great things are, and if things are not going well in our own lives, it HAS to be our fault, because all the "shows" tell us daily how great the economy is, how wonderful our health care system is, etc etc..
Unfortunately, the only way we can change the media is to re-take the majority to rules & laws can be made fair again...and the only way we can get back into a majority is for our elected officials to actually get to serve the terms we elected them to serve.
and that brings us to elections...
without accurate exit polls and the ability to re-count or even record and COUNT votes correctly , we have no chance of changing anything..
It's all connected, people.... These are not "single issues".. Thirty-plus years of setting this all in place for republicans has paid off for them, and made them almost impervious to even scandals as big as the one they are wallowing in today. If the media downplays their involvement, they will not pay the heavy price in November that they should pay.
The Dog & Pony shows of today are just going to be played out on TV as republicans "stepping up to the plate" and being responsible. Before this is over, the polls will probably say that the democrats made them do it..
