Democratic Convention: Give it to Minnesota (Twin Cities)...
http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/15057828.htm

Minnesota has been the single MOST loyal Democratic state in Presidential elections over the last 34 years.

It is the only state to resist the Reagan onslaught in 1980 and 1984...and is the ONLY state to go Democratic in every Presidential election starting in 1976.

Minnesota is trending Purple along with a good chunk of the upper midwest...

It is time that loyalty is rewarded and at the same time help shore up the upper midwest...

I know New York and Denver are also being considered. Seems like New York has had it enough recently...and although Denver is an intriguing choice, getting Colorado will avail us nothing if we lose our hold on Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa etc (we already lost Iowa last time)

1. I'll second that
I was hoping for New Orleans but the city has decided it just could not afford to be host in 2008. Minneapolis is an outstanding choice. Such an event would no doubt include a tribute to Senators Mondale and Humphrey and maybe a great location for future Senator Al Franken.

4. Exactly...the state that gave us Humphrey, Mondale, McCarthy, Freeman...
And Wellstone ought to be recognized...and rewarded!

3. Thanks for sharing this. I definitely agree.
Already wrote to the DNC to voice my support for this idea. :)

5. Denver may be a good idea though

I just moved from Minneapolis to Denver and either city getting it would be great.

Short of Kiffmeyer, MN is a lock for the Dems in 08.

Why not hold the convention in the West in a region that may not have as much support but is shifting blue. It looks like we will have a Democratic Governor by 08 at least one more House member after Winters beats Tancredo.

Why be safe and have it in a Democratic stronghold?

7. I agree. I think Denver would be a good spot and, no, I'm not even
near Denver but I did live there for a couple of years back in the mid-90's.

The west is fertile ground for Democrats IMO.

6. Detroit is constantly democratic, despite how the rest of the state votes
We had a super bowl and an all-star game with no bad things happening. We could do a convention. Really, Detroit is not as dangerous as some would have you think. Downtown is actually very safe-last weekend, my sister, bil, and two little nieces went to greektown for dinner, then walked to Campus Martius and back. It was very clean, very safe, and there were plenty of people and cops around. It was nicer than the city has looked in a long time.

It's just the neighborhoods that look bad, where people actually live, and there are, like anywhere else, good neighborhoods.

But I get your point, and Minneapolis/St. Paul would be a good place for a convention, too.

8. Yes, and make the DFL the official party name, AND adopt its platform.
I love the DFL. Those are good folks.

9. I wouldn't have any objections to that--NYC doesn't need it again
However, Colorado is trending purple from red and I also wouldn't have any objections to holding it there either.

10. I still say New Orleans
For one, they could really use the money a convention brings.

Secondly, what better way to counterbalance the "9/11" chanting of a campaigning Republican than to remind the voting public of the Republican controlled government failure to assist its own people? Hell, hold it in the Superdome, too!!
