McCain leading pack of GOP presidential hopefuls

WASHINGTON -- Jack Abramoff and the Iraq war may form the bridge to the presidential promised land in 2008 for Sen. John McCain, political observers said.

"If the presidential election were held today, McCain would be the Republican nominee and might well be able to defeat even Hillary Clinton," said Free Congress Foundation President Paul M. Weyrich.

Merrill Matthews, senior analyst at the Institute for Policy Innovation in Dallas, said the Abramoff corruption scandal "could be McCain's ticket to the White House."

The latest Zogby poll found the Arizona Republican's clout with voters high across the board, with 55 percent of Republicans saying they would be more likely to vote for an office seeker if Mr. McCain supports that candidate. About the same percentage of Democrats also said they would do the same, as did 58 percent of independents.

...

This is especially true with Republicans desperate for a 2008 candidate with the star power to match New York's junior senator. The Zogby poll shows Mr. McCain handily beating Mrs. Clinton 52 percent to 37 percent in a hypothetical presidential face-off.

2. He will never win the GOP nomination
The mere fact that many moderates and even some Dems like him is reason enough for many gophers not to support him. He's their whipping boy, takes their beatings, abuse, and keeps coming back for more.

and go "see? We're bipartisan!" It was reported last October on crooksandliars.com that he met with Jerry Falwell so you know he's going to run again. It's not known yet whether or not Hillary is running for sure. I don't think she's going to be the nominee quite frankly. I wish Gore would run myself. I think he would do fabulous in beating McCain.

4. Oh, he'll run alright
But winning the nomination? I know some gophers who absolutely despise him for being too "liberal", calling him a RINO, etc. Whatever GOP candidate runs against him will run him into the ground, rally the religious right around them, and use the same old SwiftBoat tactics against McCain just like Bush did in '00.

5. corruption scandal?
Merrill Matthews, senior analyst at the Institute for Policy Innovation in Dallas, said the Abramoff corruption scandal "could be McCain's ticket to the White House."

Really...might be right, it is doubtful the Keating Five scandal will be re-visited by Democrats and the Press has already immuned this guy from Iraq criticism...so yes, as someone cynically pointed out...McCain/Bayh '08

10. Well they should be able to steal it VERY easily...they've have been
Edited on Tue Jan-17-06 04:50 PM by LaPera
and are working on it everyday to ensure it...because most democrats don't or refuse to believe it...

As more and more electronic voting machines (owned by republicans) pour into more and more precincts all across this country, yes they will steal it again!!!

Most people can't or do not want to face this fact, that these machines can easily steal it for the republicans!!!!

The Dems candidate will win again, but the republican will take the office, they will steal it once again. They are the lying cheating fascist party in complete power in this country, you think they are just going to give it up when they can cheat... as has been proven, over and over again, nothing happens when they cheat, except the republicans assume the office!!!
