Breaking News: Hell Freezing Over
I ran into a long time acquaintance at the grocery store. The woman and her husband have always been rabid Republicans - the kind you'd expect to support Shrub even if he ate newborn kittens on live television. I've never, ever discussed politics with either of them because I figured it would end in name calling at the very least. Anyhow, the woman has been going to Curves and invited me to go along. I explained that I couldn't because of a painful muscle injury that isn't getting any better. She asked if I'd been to the doctor and if I was going to physical therapy. That set me off since I'm one of the 45 million plus who can't afford insurance. I let her have it, expecting she might quickly retreat in a huff. Instead, to my amazement, she made no bones about the fact she and her husband are entirely disenchanted with the Republican party and think King George is out of his mind. They will not be supporting Republicans next time around. I'm just stunned.

3. I'm hearing the same thing from die hard Repugs.
They are just appalled at what's going on. They think the GOP has gone completely off the deep end, and they are focusing on VOTING THEM OUT NEXT TIME AROUND.

I have actually heard two Repug members of my family make that statement dozens of times over the last few months. They are FED UP, and they will vote DEM to clean up the mess. Not good news for the GOP! Now we've just got to make sure they don't cheat (again) and steal the elections where the Dem candidates won...

7. yay!
That IS good to hear....

Living in super blue Ann Arbor, MI and not having ever had any conservative friends or even acquaintances really, my insight into the RW mind is limited to what I see from the likes of Fred Barnes, Chris Hitchens etc. (or blogs like LGF, Freeps etc.) And I know they are just the backwash really but still....

So even though I see polls that say that Hot Stuff is down to 29% approval etc., its not real to me yet....

4. I see this happening more and more often
but what is amazing is how much crap it has taken to move them to some semblance of sensibility.

5. "They will not be supporting"
I always thought about people voting or not voting for R's. But your post struck me because "supporting" also means giving money. I expect that the R party will see a decrease in contributions from their small donors around the country. And that's a good thing!

6. When current mainstream GOPers think Barry Goldwater . . .
. . . should be considered left of center, you know the Jacobins have hijacked the party.

8.  Nice. So Dems get to clean up the mess that the Piggies made.
AGAIN. :eyes: And then the following election cycle will roll around and the greedy me-firsters will be back on solid ground thanks to all the hard work WE ALL will have done, and they'll sit back and listen blindly to the idiots on Faux who shreik about 'those tax and spend liberal Democrats with all their social programs' ... and retreat backwards to vote for the Piggie of their choice.

9. We need to make sure they don't do that again!
I think the GOPs in a crisis with too many factions tearing it everywhich a way. I think it's going to take them a while (again) to get their act together after W. Reminds of what a mess they were after Nixon...

You know the saying about those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
