http://www.huffingtonpost.com/eat-the-press/2006/07/17/viacom-to-buy-the-onion_e_25171.htmlI hadn't seen this mentioned yet at DU. Buying the Onion is just another way to shut them up. They have been way too successful at predicting what the numbskull's administration will do!

1. Well I hope they don't sell. . |

Although Viacom own Comedy Central, and it doesn't seem to hurt The Daily Show or The Colbert Report too much.

3. As far as WE know, it doesn't seem to hurt them too much... |

But how much do we know about how much pressure Viacom has put on those shows, and how much they've actually suppressed?
Dave Chapelle, for example, makes no secret of his frequent fights with Viacom censors.
Also, Viacom banned ads from the gay-friendly United Church of Christ-- including on Viacom's own gay cable network!
Make no mistake-- The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Mind of Mencia, Dave Chapelle, about 2/3 of the South Park episodes... those are just bones that Viacom throws us to keep our eyeballs.
And only because Tough Crowd with right-wing blowhard douche-bag Collin Quinn sucked great big elephant balls.
Otherwise, it would all be Dennis Miller, Collin Quinn, Larry the Cable Guy, Cedric the Entertainer and Drew Carey 24/7.
