Walking tall, and out: Dan Quayle storms out of John Mellencamp concert
Edited on Mon Jul-17-06 05:49 PM by IanDB1
Walking tall, and out

Dan Quayle took time out from participating in the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship in Stateline, Nev., on Friday to attend John Mellencamp's concert only to run into a political statement.

He then made a statement of his own by walking out during Mellencamp's rendition of ``Walk Tall.'' Before launching into the song, Mellencamp told the Harveys casino crowd, in effect, that it was dedicated to everyone hurt by policies of the current Bush administration.

Quayle, who served as vice president for President Bush's father in 1989-93 walked out of the venue before Mellencamp finished the song.

Quayle said through a publicist: ``Well, I think Mellencamp's performance was not very good to begin with, and the comment put it over the top.''

Mellencamp couldn't be reached for comment.

I wonder what Murphy Brown would say?

1. WALK TALL - previously unreleased

Walk Tall

Written by: John Mellencamp
(Note links with an * at the end appear on the album version. Lines with % at the end appear on the single version.)

The simple minded
And the uninformed
Can be easily led astray
And those that cannot connect the dots
Hey look the other way
People believe what they want to believe
When it makes no sense at all
So be careful of those killing in Jesus’s name*
He don’t believe in killing at all*

And I wish you a long sight line %
And the strength to walk tall %

Walk tall
Yeah walk on
Through this world
Walk tall

Somewhere out in the distance
Is the death of you and me
Even though we don’t think of it much
It’s still out there for us to see
If you treat life like a ballroom fight
You’ll die stinking of gin
No drunkards are allowed in heaven
No sinners will get in

<snip>

So be careful in what you believe in
There’s plenty to get you confused
And in this land called paradise
You must walk in many men’s shoes
Bigotry and hatred are enemies to us all
Grace, mercy and forgiveness
Will help a man walk tall

1. Dan Quayle is a political nobody even Bush II doesn't want him
Nixon, Humphrey, Mondale, Bush I, and Gore all Vice presidents who got their parties nominations while Danny couldn't even win a single primary when he ran in '96.

5. With the rigged machines and all the other shenannigans
they could "elect" him now.

But he isn't in the inner circle of the Imperial Family, that much has been clear for quite some time.

Was he really chosen for the political expediencies of a now-defunct nation, the old USA?

Or, as it is with so many Bush activities, is there a more sinister reason behind a clumsy lie?

8. How did anyone know he did it?
I don't even remember what he used to look like, let alone now. Did he pass out cards and hold a press conference when he left?

10. Why did you even go, Dan-o?
Mellencamp's political views are well known. Maybe you would have been happier at a Reba McWhatever concert.

14. Quayle can't spell potato, let alone spot talent.
I saw Mellencamp and John Fogerty a year ago, and was most impressed with Mellencamp's show.

15. Couldn't stand the heat . . .
Got out of the kitchen. Looks like the years haven't been kind to Mr. Quayle's intellectual prowess, which was never too good to begin with.
