From CNN: A grand total of 6 helicopters, one chartered ($$ cha-ching!!) cruise ship, and ONE Navy vessel to guard said cruise ship. WTF??
There are 3 Marine baby carriers (with dozens of helicopters and amphibious landing craft) in the Red Sea...but they are not being sent straight in unless conditions warrant???
So these Americans wait in peril for their "rescue" by Bush & Co... And oh yeah, they better bring their American Express cards, because Bush & Co. are gonna make them pay for their own rescue.
"The main U.S. evacuation plan involves a Pentagon-contracted cruise ship, the Orient Queen, due to arrive in Lebanon Tuesday to ferry passengers to Cyprus. The ship can carry an estimated 750 evacuees for the 5-hour trip. Defense officials said other private ships are likely to be contracted, as well.
American citizens have been told to wait for a telephone call that could come in hours -- or days. They've also been told that they can't board the ship unless they've signed a contract agreeing to pay the U.S. government back for the price of their evacuation.
The rules have chafed many Americans who are already fatigued and nervous after days of explosions. "I'm freaked out that our government is treating us this way," snapped a Rutgers student who had been studying Arabic at the American University of Beirut. She declined to give her name for fear that she'd be taken off the passenger list in retribution for criticizing the American evacuation.
"Are we a third world country, or what?" she said."
